Hello everyone,
We left magnetic island on the morning and we had a bus waiting for us at the ferry terminal ready to take us on our final greyhound bus to cairns. It was weird knowing that it was our last journey on the greyhound, it had been our transport all the way up the east coast and i think it was an inkling that our Australian section of our trip was nearing the end. But not before we experience cairns.
We had big plans for cairns and at the top of our list was obviously diving the Great Barrier Reef! We stayed at a hostel called globetrotters, it had free breakfast and free WIFI and we checked into a dorm room but fortunately my man hood happened to offend the other girl in the dorm because she requested an all girls dorm so .................we got upgraded to our own private double room!! Thank you testicles !! haha
We spent ages deciding on which dive trip to go on. We were deciding on whether to do a live aboard boat and do 11 dives, 7 dives or just do a day trip with 3 dives. We had heard disappointing things about the Great Barrier Reef so we weren't sure on what to do. However in the end we decided on the day trip because it takes you to the outer reef further north where not many boats go which supposedly meant it was in better condition and from what we saw the reef was excellent. We would love to do more but it becomes a cost issue since diving is such an expensive sport. I think the deciding issue was that this boat was more luxurious and I think Louise had spotted it served cakes on board. All our food and drinks were free on board which is always nice and it gives us a chance to stock up and go wild! haha
On one of the dives the guide was pointing under this big coral rock so i went lower to get a look so i steadied myself and stuck my head under to see what all the fuss was all about only to come face to face with a SHARK!! I was taken back but i didn't want to leave without trying to get a photo so i just stuck the camera below and took a guess shot.............. i managed to get the body in but it missed the head out, can't be helped!
After our dive trip we had plans to rent a car for 3-4 days and head north to Port Douglas and Cape Tribulation which is rain forest and the only rain forest in the world to border onto the beach. However the weather took a turn for the worst and it absolutely chucked it down for not 1, not 2 days but the whole bloody time! They had a monsoon and they had a month's rainfall in only two days. This meant me and Lou put off hiring a car and turned into recluses for the time being! We spent the remaining days scouring the mall for bargains and ended up buying some clothes so we were prepared for New Zealand's colder climate. We did find that the day time TV in cairns was a lot better than back home no midsummer murders! One morning we woke up and put the TV on only to find the breaking news of the earthquake in Christchurch it was terrible and because the time difference isn't much it was happening live.
The second last day we finally hired out a car and it miraculously stayed dry so we had planned to do the water fall circuit which is just a road that is a loop with about 12 different water falls on it. It was really good the main spectacle was millaa millaa falls which was the scene from Peter Andre's mysterious girl music video where he has the six pack, hence my lame pictures trying to replicate it, i was forced i tell you..... forced!!!! However because we had been stuck in the room for so long it did have an effect on us it made us soo lazy.....we would drive up to the waterfall and if the water fall wasn't visible from the car window then we couldn't be bothered to get out so we would turn around and go to the next one haha how bad is that! That night we treat ourselves to the cinemas and watched 'i am number 4' which we loved! The next couple of days were again spent in the vicinity of our room, hiding from the rain!
Off back to Sydney to finish our last few days off in Australia, sad times!
Love Adam and Louise xxx
