Hi everyone,
We left the amazing Sydney behind and headed for Coffs harbour for a couple of nights, this was because we left it too late to book the Byron bay bus and accommodation.Everyone at Coffs Harbour was there for the exact same reason. We stayed at the YHA hostel because they're all good quality and this one had a pool! The first day we got there was at 6am in the morning and it was chucking it down so we just stayed under the bus canopy until about 8am and ate Nutella straight from the jar because we were hungry. We eventually made a dash for it but with no real idea where the hostel was we headed for Woolworths........yes Woolworths , there everywhere in Australia and they are big supermarkets i thought they went bust ages ago. Anyway after waiting at the bus stop and missing one bus we eventually got to the hostel at about 9.30 and had to wait until 11 for check in! At this point we were dead on our feet and went straight to the kitchen and had some special k which we picked up from woollies on the way haha then we zonked out on the sofa until check in!
After sorting ourselves out we headed for the beach and found our bearings around town. We walked around the harbour but got caught in the rain so we retreated for the day and that night we just sat in and we cooked Thai green curry and finished the rest of the wine off from New Years Eve and watched rush hour! Haha i think i only had 3 glasses but i was away, doesn't take much for me to feel drunk so after taking stick from Louise i went to bed and we were both out for the count.
Next day we headed up to mutton bird island which juts out into the sea and is apparently inhabited by mutton birds but we didn't see any what so ever, lots of people come up here to watch manta rays and whales breach the surface of the water but guess what.... it was the wrong time of year....typical! But we were walking the path at the top of the hill and i was looking for these 'mutton birds' but i stopped in my tracks..........SNAKE!!!!AHHHH!!! RUN! But after Louise's closer inspection it was only a lizard but i saw the tail but Louise saw the feet either side. Panic over!
We were talking to a few locals who were fishing and they saw a sea turtle just down by the harbour a few days ago so once Louise heard this, hand in hand she marches us down to the harbour on the prowl for turtles. Louise hasn't even got her glasses on so every big rock in the water she see's........... 'is that it Adam? ' (deep breath) no Louise haha but just as we were about to give up guess who spots it out of the corner of his eye?..............20-20 vision bob that's who!!! Oh yeah!! We got some good pictures of it peeking its head out to see us!
Next day we went on a massive walk along this never ending beach with our poncho's in hand because the weather had been so unpredictable recently, we ended up in this cove which was an excellent place to surf. I'm still a virgin surfer at this point so we just sat on the bench overlooking the beach and watched the surfers some of the waves, they were HUGE! Then i turn around and find Louise actually asleep on the bench behind haha she was shattered. Next stop big banana, we carried on walking until we reached the big banana it's literally just a big banana and it is because Coffs harbour is the place where bananas are produced in the region. That night we Skype'd back home from the top of the landing and saw Alan's beard for the first time haha the last day we spent at the pet porpoise pool to see the dolphins and sea lions. Louise was in her element stroking all the dolphins and we got free photos of us kissing a dolphin and seal which was pretty cool. They also put on a show but we were expecting something like sea world in Florida but were sadly mistaken haha all in all it was still a great day out! Just as we were leaving Coffs Harbour making some sandwiches for the road we hear this all too familiar accent of fellow Geordies. After talking to these two girls they weren't Geordies at all but Mackams! One was from Roker and the other from Jarrow. They were heading to Byron Bay on the bus the same as us that evening. It was nice to talk to people from the North East. We hopped on the bus next stop Byron bay!
Love Adam and Louise xx
