Hey guys,
We eventually booked onto our fraiser island trip after 12 nights at Noosa! It got to the point where we were so chilled out and having such a good time with everyone, me and Louise had to sit down and work out how long we had left in OZ and because we had so long to do the east coast we were able to spend long time in places like Noosa but it turns out maybe to long haha We worked out where we still wanted to visit and we were cutting it fine. So we bit the bullet and booked our fraiser island trip and for you's that don't know what it is..................it's a 3 day 2 night trip to an island off the east coast where you camp and drive big 4x4 jeeps on the beach and through the rain forest. This island was meant to be stunning with endless amounts of lakes and things to do. Only rule is don't swim in the sea due to shark infested water.
Anyway we said our goodbye's to our friends from New Years Eve Jess and Chloe and our roomy Chandra as well as the rest of the gang! Off to rainbow beach where we would depart for the trip. That night we went to this thing called the Carlo Sandblow which was meant to be good for sunset and it was amazing!!! We trekked up the massive hill through jungle and trees only to come out into some kind of dessert it was bizarre! It was caused by the wind that blows sand up from the beach into the forest but over thousands of years it's blown into some kind of dessert and the sunset was just a big ball of red sun that eased its way down over the city of rainbow beach! Best sunset so far!
Next day was fraiser island day 1 we got our safety briefing and met our group but check this out...... in the distance I hear a Geordie accent so we go over and we start 'taaalking ya kna, wey eye man and all that'!!
The conversation goes a little like this......so where ye from? Just ootside of Newcastle! Yeah where aboots like? Just a little place caalled washy! No way me too! Where in washy? Fatfield....noo way... gan on give is a street name.....St pauls drive......F*#@ off!........ I work in the Havelock and live in Bidd*** woods Haha so bizarre.....and it gets better...his girlfriend who he is travelling with is from Sunderland and guess who she is meeting in NZ......Lucy Bourke, eddy's sister. Blew my mind it did!
1st day on fraser we went to lake wabby and it chucked it down we just made it into the lake where it was nice and warm then the heavens opened. Wehad a group of 14, 5 from the north east, 2 Israeli's which were great fun, 4 Swedish girls, 2 swiss and a stinking German haha just kidding, but not really!
It was great racing on the long stretch of beach in the big 4x4, we set up camp and had a BBQ for lunch and were warned about the dingo's roaming for food! First night everyone got drunk and we played some cards i think it was the only way to get to sleep because there were spiders webbed up against our tent! Next morning we headed to what's known as hangover creek a fresh water creek that runs from the hills all the way down to the beach. We had decent weather in the morning so we didn't mind the really cold water, but it sorted Louise out cause she was suffering pretty bad from last night's antics. The water was that clean you were able to drink it i think Louise just opened her mouth as we floated down the creek nearly drinking it dry just to hydrate herself haha
In the afternoon we went to the Champaign pools which were little rock pools at the edge of the ocean where it frothed over but again weather wasn't great. However one of the Israeli'swanted to drive so i let him and it was a big mistake he was a bit rusty because he was used to driving automatics and he tried to drive up a hill actually it was more like a mountain in 4th gear so we stalled and started rolling back down the hill with Louise screaming for her life. After that little stunt the group voted him never to drive again!
Later that day we went to drive through the rainforest which was amazing just the drive itself was excellent we went to a place called lake Allom which was a tea tree lake and it was just mirror black on the surface and was filled with little turtles so I jumped in and had a swim. That night everyone took it easy on the alcohol ready for the morning because we were headed back home via the main attraction lake Mckenzie this lake was crystal blue waters with white silica sand. The sand is so fine it squeaks when you walk on it and you can wash your hair, face, teeth and jewellery with it.
All in all the trip was excellent just a shame about the weather, next destination 1770 aka agnes water
