Day 27
We grab a Tuk Tuk to our guesthouse "Singharat" and head down to the night market to have a look around. The night market was huge, although we can't really buy much as our backpacks are heavy enough already! We stop off for some food and then head back to plan our trips during our stay and work out how the Lao Kip currency differs to the pound. For those of you that care, it is roughly 12,000 Kip to the pound....there now your life is complete.
Day 28
We have breakfast at the guesthouse which was included in the price of the room (result!) and then the lady who runs the guesthouse helps book a minivan to take us to the Kuang Si waterfall. Once we arrived there were 2 routes to see the waterfall 1) steps (easy option) 2) trek up muddy slopes in flip flops and through the jungle, loosing your flip flops in the mud and then carrying muddy flip flops and walking in bare foot through ants nests etc.
Yep we did the second option.
Once we arrived at the waterfall we took lots of photos and the views were breathtaking. We manage to stand in the waterfall and take more photos before going for a swim and having some lunch. On the way back down - yes we took the steps this time - we visited a bear sanctuary for black Asian bears and gave a donation.
In the evening we head to a bar called "Utopia" and meet a guy called Bill. Now.... So far you may have noticed that when we meet single random people on these types of nights they are certainly interesting to say the least. We had Liam (ladyboy fighter/poker player), Mark (drunk Irishman who fell into a rose bush, got escorted out of a hotel and fell face first into concrete....but did manage to get us home somehow) and now we meet Bill.
Bill was born in Johannesburg, lived in Papa New Guinea and England so had quite an unusual accent. He was drunk, he was stoned and we think he had also been smoking Opium. Nothing eventful happened however he must have told us about his girlfriend "Jen" at least 25 times and how they were getting married etc. It was so boring! You know when you are talking to somebody and want to politely end the conversation but can't find the right moment to do it? Yep this was one of those moments...3 hours later we left and went back to the guesthouse, leaving Bill alone.
Day 29
We had to sort out a lot of things such as accommodation, money and booking trips, so nothing eventful to write here I am afraid. We decide to leave out travelling to Vietnam for now as we would only be able to spend 1 week there and both agreed that it wouldn't be long enough, so we can now extend our stays in the south of Thailand and Cambodia.
Day 30
Wow, I don't know what's more surprising, the fact that we have now been travelling for 1 month or the fact that me and Hannah haven't killed each other yet!
We had booked an elephant trip for about £23 each. We were picked up in a Tuk Tuk, travelled for about 45 minutes and then got onto a longboat, crossed the Mekong river and arrived to meet the elephants. We had a 30 minute ride on the elephants, we seemed to be riding the naughtiest one as he kept stopping to put his trunk down tree stumps or pull leaves off trees. We then had 20 minutes to bathe the elephants which was amazing before feeding them bananas and bamboo. It was a great experience and the elephants were well looked after and very well fed!
Day 31
We check out of the guesthouse and grab a bus to take us to Vang Vieng. The ride lasted 7 hours and was very hot. Hannah was sat next to the window so now has 1 arm browner then the other.
