This is a little behind in time however we had a good time in and around the capital city, Quito. It was freezing compared to the Galapagos where it was actually getting too hot! We travelled to a town 2 hours out of Quito called Otavalo (you can see the photographs on this blog). The town is famous for its markets and we bought lots of wonderful things for you to use in school. We also visited the equator. What is the equator? What strange things happen there?

When we were at the equator we went on a hike up the side of a volcanoe. Down in the crater there was a village with one small school, the teacher has to travel from Quito 2 hours away and then hike for another hour into the crater to get to the school. They then have to hike back out at the end of the day. There is a photograph of the school for you to look at. All of the children no matter what age they are have the same teacher as the school only has one teacher working there!
