A sea day is always welcome. While maybe not generating the most exciting stories, it allows us to regenerate ourselves from the demands of excursions and dinner dates. Today, however, we have a Meet & Greet scheduled for 11am. I had volunteered to set it up with our Cruise Critic group and made the arrangements with Holland America months ago. We have about 80 people signed up to attend. After breakfast this morning, I go upstairs to the Crow's Nest bar and check out the setup. They've done a nice job. There's a table with coffee, water and tea accompanied by Danish and cookies. A sign designates the area as reserved for a "Private Meeting". Karen and I are the first here so we wait for others to arrive.
We don't wait long. A dozen or more arrive followed by Joni, the gal who made all the name badges. She lays out the pages and the guests, including Karen and I , locate and peel off our name tags. More people arrive and I get to meet face to face friends that I made months ago through the website. By noon, the crowd thins down, leaving about ten of us, sitting and chatting for another half hour before we agree to see one another at the next excursion or somewhere on board.
We grab a quick bite in the Lido for lunch and then go to the theater for two lectures on Norway and Iceland history and culture. At 3pm, we return to the room, relaxing for a while before preparing for dinner. Tonight is a "Gala" night, meaning we need to dress up. Karen really looks forward to these evenings. I brought my suit and Karen is loaded with outfits. I should know, I carried them around for the last three weeks. At dinner, we share a table with an Australian couple who are traveling for 6 months. Wow! That's a lot of traveling. We have Yellow fin Sole, escargot, soup and lemon meringue cheesecake. Mmmm.
At 8pm we say goodbye to our dinner partners and go to the theater where tonight Naki Ataman is the featured entertainer. The pianist is a great musician but a terrible entertainer. He sits at the piano, playing song after song, never looking at or acknowledging the audience once. We lose interest quickly and leave after 20 minutes. There's nothing else going on so, returning to our stateroom, I watch the last half of "American Sniper" and complete several blog entries and Mom goes to sleep. Tomorrow we are in Bergen again. Remember? We were there with the Royal Family who screwed us out of our boat ride. No hard feelings. Maybe we'll get another chance tomorrow if the weather's good. We have no other plans except to maybe walk around. I didn't feel much like walking the last time we here, just over a week ago. We'll see. We dock at 8am.
