Rise and shine at 8.30 for a 9ish takeoff.
I seem to have accumulated a fair few souvineers (don't know how that happened?!?) so I decided to get them all out of my suitcase, put them all together in a bag and ask JD if I could stash it in the trailer to save lugging it in and out all the time. He found a special little place for me, so nice :-)
A quick photo stop as we passed Fred Flinstone camping grounds.
We drove another hour or so before stopping at Seligman on route 66. There was a car club pulled over with their fancy shiny old cars which was kinda cool. We poked in the few little stores for half an hour or so.
We bumped into another tour group there from Intrepid which is run by the same company as our Trek America and are also heading to Vegas today. We have a limo ride booked for Vegas tonight and JD was trying to talk the other guide into joining us as it brings the price down per head. But that guide is only on her 2nd trip and doing everything by the book, in which mingling groups is apparently frowned upon. I love JD...he bends the rules all over the place!! There's several other places she's not taking her group but we've been. He told us his recent performance review said "JD continues to break the rules and do his own thing...but he's one of the best and always gets raving reviews from customers". I think we scored big time in having him with us.
Back on the road around midday to head for Vegas. Stopped for a picnic lunch at the back of a servo (classy! But it was the only place in shade coz it was sooo hot). I bought an icecream for $0.99. I can't believe how cheap things are here.
Back on the road at 2pm. We had planned for another half hour stop to see Hoover Dam, but we hit roadworks and a traffic buildup as we passed the dam at 3.30 so the group decided to push on for Vegas.
VEGAS BABY!!! 4pm we touched down. JD dropped the girls at the downtown shopping district and the boys went to shoot guns. We shopped for about an hour...nothing exciting, mainly brand label clothes. Then we had an early dinner at 5.30pm before JD picked us up at 6ish.
We checked into our LUSH hotel. I'm with Sophie and not only do we have our own double beds, but there's a dividing bannister so it's kinda private. It's lovely!
We were meeting in the carpark at 8.30pm for some pregame drinks and corn hole until the limo arrived at 10pm. So with 2 or so hours to kill I decided to ring home and say hello. Had some phone issues at first, couldn't get onto the home number so rang my housey Brad. Only a brief chat as he was at work and then my credit died anyway :-( Topped up credit then tried again and got through! It was so nice but had to talk to my parents - should have checked in earlier really (sorry mum and dad!) Had a great 20 min chat!!
Everyone got dressed up nice - it was great to see everyone in some different clothes!!
The limo ride was AWESOME!!!! It was huge and spacious and had loud pumping music and flashing lights!! We had a lot of fun. We stopped off at a few places for a bit of a squizz before being dropped in town. JD led us to the Bellagio Fountain which lights up and the fountains go off in time with music, it was quite spectacular.
The unders and overs split up and the overs went gambling. We wandered the strip and checked out a few casinos and gambling places. I had a bit of a go on the Roulette wheel and lost $20 :-( Oh well.. when in Vegas... It was entertaining even just watching all the action that was going on.
After midnight we went to Maccas for a pick me up and JD met us there. We walked around a bit more and played the pokies awhile - they have some of the cool old ones where you pull the handle! We ended up grabbing a taxi home around 3.30am!
Later,
Tracey.
