It was raining and miserable this morning for Cape Cod day
I ummed and ahhed about going, since it's a 90 minute ferry ride each way. I decided to head into town to the ferry dock and see what they say about the seas.
While waiting at the bus stop a few houses down, a lady came for the bus too, and we started chatting. She asked about the square dance shirt I was wearing because she did ballroom dancing. She was a lovely lady and we were chatting about Cape Cod and whether I should go. She said it was beautiful there.
Anyway, I got to the ferry wharf, and it really came down to having nothing else to do, so I decided to go on the adventure! Besides, the ticket lady said there was "only" a 2 foot swell "which is nothing". Lots of people were on the ferry going over aswell.
The trip was surprisingly smooth, or maybe I just didn't notice since I slept most of the way. Having been up at 6.45am to get on the 7.30am bus to make the 9am ferry meant I only had about 6 hours sleep!
I spoke to the guy on the ferry who gave me some maps and explained the best places to go, even in the rain.
The worst part was getting off the ferry in the absolute pouring rain! We had to walk all the way along Long Wharf (appropriately named!). Probably a 10 min walk in pouring rain...my jean legs were sodden, as were my feet. Wet jeans are not comfy, just so you know, and neither are wet socks!! ICK!
It was around that point I regretted my decision to go. Anyway...
So there's basically one main street, Commercial Street, which is very long and packed with little pokey shops and antiques. I was in heaven then and thought it wouldn't matter too much if I stayed inside shopping!
Around midday it had stopped raining, so I went for a walk to the Tower and climbed up goodness knows how many stairs (hint...it was A LOT!). The view from the top was pretty nice, so well worth the climb.
Spend a lot more time wandering around and it actually got really hot! I changed into shorts and was so glad that I had decided to go!
4pm I was on the return ferry, back to town at 5.30pm. Stopped and bought a sanga to take home, then train & bus. Funnily I saw the same lady again on the bus! I was kinda glad as I was still not sure how far along my bus stop was, so great...I'll just follow her! When we got off, she asked me if I made it and we chatted a few minutes. Afterwards she told me her name was Valerie and she headed off up Highview St.
When I got home and was telling my host Karen about my day, it turns out she knows "Valerie from up Highview"!
I repacked my bags ready to depart tomorrow morning and am having an early night for a change.
New York tomorrow...yay!!
