To start our holiday together off………we decide to celebrate Mum and Dad's 50th Wedding - Golden Anniversary with a day at Versailles and a special lunch at the famous Ore restaurant, in the palace, with golden furniture and views to the courtyard.
We meet at Invalides train station to travel to Versailles with our private guide. Entry into Versailles was a breeze with skipping the lines and viewing all the rooms with our guide, who was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the history and the people of Versailles.
Our favourite viewing - of course the State Apartments – Hall of Mirrors and Kings Chamber. Our minds go back in time with imagined use of the Hall of Mirrors - Mum and Dad do a little dance in the hall which brings back memories for them when they first met learning ballroom dance.
Lunch is next, with views over the courtyard, the food fit for a King and Queen.
In the afternoon we venture out into the gardens and groves, the fountains are being trialed for the season of when the musical fountains displays take place next month and as we walk through the groves – classical musical of this era is played, giving us all goose bumps just thinking about the parties that took place in the gardens.
The last part of the day is visiting the not so serious Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon - where Marie-Antoinette’s child like antics took place, a farm house, animals, secret gardens, a theatre and colourful room décor all so different to the grand Versailles where life was to be serious and watched continuously.
The sun was out and the day was glorious, it was such a special day to be able to celebrate Mum and Dad’s 50 years together at Versailles.
