Basically the Whitsundays are 72 islands that are all national park and on the end of the great barrier reef. We had to meet our group at the marina at 9am on Wed out side a cafe. It imediately looked alot more promising than our Fraser Island group with lots of people our age. We handed in our liability forms and picked up our lovely stinger suits, which are basically a really thin wet suit to protect from jelly fish. We have been warned about 2 types of jellys here, firsty the box jelly that will kill you within about an hour of stinging you, and there is basically no cure, and there is another smaller one thats sting wont kill you but will cause exscrutiating pain so much so that you would wish you were dead and can last indefinately. So they say that the stinger suit is highly recommended. hehe.

So then we headed down to the harbour, all the boats there were amazing and worth a fortune and then we saw Avatar, it is such an impressive looking boat. She is basically as wide as she is long. We were a mixed group with some Americans, English and Irish. Then we loaded up and set off. It was crazy how our captain managed to get this boat out of the harbour as its so big.

Once out to sea we did and introduction to each other, we had a crew of 3 people, Simon the captain, Bianca our host, and Ryan the deck hand. They went around asking what we wanted out of the trip as there is no itinary as such you can go where ever you want within the islands. Whitehaven seamed a strong favorite and some people wanted to dive. So Simon told us that the winds were really strong at the moment and we were on the fastest boat within the whitsundays so some good sailing would be likely, that Whitehaven beach is pretty far away but they would do there best to get us there. Then that afternoon we headed to a cove that is good for snorkling, me and Kirsty, armed with our stinger suits of course we went into snorkle, but after a few mins of coral and fish I freaked out and Kirsty couldnt handle the breathing. So we signaled to Ryan to pick us up to take us back to the boat. He was shocked we wanted to finish so soon so took us in the boat to feed some fish and see them from the boat. this was alot better as I saw some massive ones that if I had been in the water with I would have been really freeked out!! Dont think there is much chance of me getting over this stupid irrational fear of fish. hehe. Then once everyone was back on the boat we headed reound to another cove to anchor up. On the way we had some dolphins following us, it was amazing.

The second day the crew got up at 6am to attempt to get us to Whitehaven but apparently as they got round the other side of the island it was quite rough so Simon decided it was better to not attempt it for our comfort. So we went to another cove for snorkling and met up with a dive boat so those who wanted to could dive. In the afternoon we just did some more sailing to a cove that would alllow a clear run to whitehaven the folowing day. In the evening we all sat up playing drinking games again etc. It was really good fun as the group of people were good, all that is appart from a few Americans. Hehe.

The final day the crew were up at 5am on a mission to get us to whitehaven. At 8am they woke us up saying we were in a race to get to Whitehaven with 3 other boats so we needed to get up and get ready so that we wouldnt have to que when we got to the lookout point. We got there and it was amazing!!! Unfortunately we only had about 1.5 hours on the beac h as we had to get back on the boat to make it back to Airlie Beach by 4pm.

The sail back was amazing. the weather was perfect, so sunny and the wind kept us moving at a good pace. It was a perfect end to the trip.
