Cape Tribulation was not originaly on either of our agendas, but after chatting to some people from our previous tours, it became a 'must see'. Now I know Dave is very sceptical of the 'must see' phenomina, but the sources were pretty reliable so we decided to give it a go.
After a few much needed, but entirely boring, days in Cairns and an incredible frustrating conversation with an Austrian travel rep we were booked on ANOTHER tour. This was to be honest the last thing we wanted after a month of tours. But, the annoying Austrian assured us that it was the easiest (of course) but also the cheapest (hmmmm....) way of seeing it. Also it was only a morning of tour on the way there, then 24 hours of Cape Trib all to yourself, before an afternoon tour home, so it was mangable, even for us.
The next morning we awaited our Explorer Tour and when it arrived it arrived in the form of the absolutely mad and very crazy Cindy. Cindy was our kind of tour guide, bomkers and not too serious but very passionate about the area, FABULOUS. After a yummy chocolate muffin we headed on up to Trib, on the way was a river cruise. This was quite similar to the one we did in Kakadu but it we did see a big croc which was cool, and a tree snake! After that Cindy took us on a guided board walk through the rainforest and taught us all about the amazing mangrove trees and some other very cool plants like the strangler fig and another cool hooky type plant that will mean nothing to any of you but I found very cool, and Cindu got quite excited about to!
After that she dropped us at the Cape Trib Beach House, where we shared a dorm with a lovely German girl and her Mum and a big ginger Canadian. I didn't catch any of their names but they were all very nice. That the rest of the day was spent on the beach, Dave juggled and I went on a really long walk, exploring the cape. That night we had some drinks with our room mates and some yummy food!
The next day Dave and I set off early (ish) to find a water hole which was aparently very cool for swimming in, we headed down the beach in search of the track but unfortunately we never found it. Instead we spent the whole morning messing around talking photos on the beach, most importantly the ones for Kevies bday.
We got picked up in the afternoon and after some exotic icecream, a lookout and a swim in a river we dropped back in Cairns, yeay!
