Today was a bit of a bust for me. I think Noah will have more interesting things to report as he's waiting on the gangway returning from his Beijing trip.
We were supposed to arrive in Shanghai at about 4am with a full face to face check with immigration shortly thereafter. Instead, we got caught in the fog and had to anchor about 66 miles from Shanghai. They had hoped we'd be able to get going again during the night and arrive by 7am. Instead, we stayed anchored all night. We didn't arrive in Shanghai until about 6pm. Then immigration took a long time so when the ship was cleared at 7:30pm, I decided to stay on as duty started at 8pm. Basically, I'm right by land, but stuck on the ship. I hope everyone is well behaved tonight so that I can sleep. We're hoping to get up early to explore Shanghai especially since I'll have to be back on the ship by 6pm tomorrow night to check in at the gangway.
The funny thing is that when we arrived, there were about 50 SAS students who were waiting for us at the dock. We all joked that when they arrived at the dock and didn't see the ship, they must have worried about what day it was.
These last few days on the ship have been nice. Very quiet with amazing dinners. They actually served us and had menus for us to pick from. People played games each night; it was a fun little group.
