Arrived in Taupo booked a jump out of a plane for next morning and had a beer. Keeley then decided she would regret it if she did not jump so changed booking for two. The next morning we were picked up in a shabby limo and driven to the airport. Chose our songs for the video's and got geared up. Before you knew we up in the air six in one small plane I was going to be first to jump. The doors opened and I moved to the edge seemed to wait on the opening for a long time before we fell. The falling was fantastic although over all too quickly. With a man attached who did all the parachute stuff you had nothing to do but enjoy the ride. Keeley enjoyed the freefall as much as me and we have decidied next time got to go higher.
After the skydive we went to Rotorua to go white rafting hopefully. We booked and went to a campsite which had a pool it was freezing. I managed 15 lengths Keeley swam 60. Went down to Hannah's bay for a short walk really nice by the lake made it back just before the rain. Next morning rose to sunshine and made our way to the Kaitiaki river for our rafting. With next to no instruction we were on the raft and going down the river. I was at the front setting the rhythm a bit of a problem I thought. We were straight over two waterfalls and some rapids getting wet in the process. All this was an appetizer for the main course a seven metre waterfall. The raft before spilled most of its crew when going over the falls. We all however just managed to stay in the raft a great buzz soaked to the skin.
Next we went to Hell's Gate a thermal reserve which looked like something from a different planet. Stunk of methane and a boiling mud and water everywhere. Easy to see where it got its name.
Onto Waitomo for our next activity caving, abseiling and black water rafting. Keeley was more worried about the abseiling than the skydive or the white water rafting. Dressed in wet suits again we headed off to the caves a very small group me Keeley the guide and a German called Jo Jo. Went down into the cave first no problems. Keeley was next and had no fears over the abseil but did sort of come down the wrong way bumping into the wall. Jo Jo follwed Keeley's example. In the cave we started off floating down an underground river on inflatable tubes (black water rafting). There were thousands of glowworms on the ceilings lighting our way. Disposing of the tubes the caving began lots of wading through water Keeley decided to have a swim in one deep pool. We squeezed through some pretty small holes before finding our way back to sunlight. A quick bit of rock climbing and we were out into the sun.
Tim our guide had persuaded us we should go to a pub for a sheep shearing competition and as on the way were some sights we want to see we agreed. Taking Jo Jo along with us. The first stop was a natural limestone bridge which was impressive but gorse all over top so did not go over it. Then we went to a waterfall that was very very nice got drenched by the spray that much that had to towel down and change before heading to the pub. We seemed to be the only non Kiwi's there a very local event with cheap beer and cheap sauasages. The shearing was very impressive very quick and the winner got 1,500 new zealand dollars.
Feeling a little hungover the next day we went to Raglan to relax on the beach which we did. We did bump into Jo Jo again who had hitched a ride arrived almost the same time. That afternoon we went to see another waterfall (bridal veil falls) which had a much longer drop but was not as beautiful. However I did get to swim in the pool which was cold but nice. We spent thte night in Cambridge on the way to the east coast.
