The first morning at Queenstown we decided to check out the walks round and about. We walked up to the top of Queenstown hill first which was a fairly steep uphill climb but we made it all the way to the top and managed for once to get some great views of queenstown. Not many others doing this walk so maybe they were in the know before about the steepness. Great peacefull walk though due to this. The afternoon wasn't so entertaining though watching our car tail light being fixed. Everyone makes mistakes though as even though I know very little about cars I was concerned that he had put it on the wrong way. Left Aaron to inform the guy as didn't want to be a girl telling the mechanic he had got it wrong but of course he had. After handing over our hard earned money for something we have no recolection of happening we set off to book the more adventurous stuff for the next day.
The next day didn't quite work out the way we planned. Firstly the Jet boat we had booked had cancelled due to the increase the rivers height because of the terrential rain during the night. No problems though we booked on the Shotover Jet (susposed to be better we were informed) which goes down a different stretch of the river. This was grest fun we got soaked and he drove so close to the rocks it deffinately kept us on edge the whole time. As did the 360 turns he enjoyed making. Glad we booked this for 9.00 as an hour later this was stopped as well as the river was up to the height of the jetty. For the afternoon we had planned to do White Water Rafting. Looking forward to it as we had been told it was the best day for it in the year due to the fast flowing river but this was not to be either. Yes it was cancelled beacause the conditions were too good. Only experts allowed. Feeling very dissapointed we perked up at the idea of Quad biking around scenes of the Lord of the Rings, but this was booked up too. We settled for the less adventurous Gondolla ride up to the top of Bobs Peak. This turned out to be a little too much for me going up. The fear of the swinging bridges came back to me. Obviously pretty phobic of things that are high up and swing (no Bungy for me). Anyway we made it to the top me shaking running off as soon as I was able. We then got to go down the Luge. It looks pretty tame at first just a go kart thing gound down a track but it was a good laugh and not as tame as we expected if you got the right luge.
After a not so exhillerationg afternoon as expected we headed for Wanaka to do some more walking. We got there late and just parked up on the main street for the night. We seemed to be the only ones that chose this option. At about 2.30 in the morning I was woken up by drunken passers by banging on the van not seen any body that drunk so far during our time in New Zealand so wasn't really expecting it. Seems it was the place for it as about 7.00 in the morning we were both startled awake by some one banging telling us to get up. in fear it was a warden we hurridly dressed and headed for a different parking place. I think it was just someone messing but not going to stick around to find out.
In the end it worked to our advantage as it meant we set off early for our walk before it became covered in tourists and school children. The journey there was fun passing through all the deep fords. At first we were careful testing them then we just headed straight through. Who needs four wheel drive! The walk was in Mount Aspiring National Park along the Rob roy Valley track. You could picture it in many of the scenes from Lord of the Rings. It was our favourite National Park to date. Yes I did have to negotiate another swing bridge I should be getting used to them by now but when it is windy my fear is trebbled. Some of the track was non existant and it meant scambling over rocks and trees but it adds to the fun. The views of the Glacier at the top were fantastic and well worth another uphill walk. Didn't take us long to get down especially when Aaron was running down the hills pretending to be a Fighter jet.
