Moved to my new hotel and met my new group - we are around 13 - a few singles and couples of various ages - various nationalities too so thats nice. My new hotel is in the more up market side of town so decided that as my wardrobe had been packed mainly with the Trans-siberian in mind, I may buy some new clothes - wondered into a shop and the young young shop assistant promptly SHOUTED over ' lady, lady, zis teenie weenie ' YOU ARE BIG - you go upstairs' - all the teenie weenies had a good giggle while the fat bird promptly sidled her way to XXL Department - honestly.....good job my self esteem isnt based on my looks as I was then accosted by someone who said she couldnt do anything about my wrinkles, but she could cure my bags and saggy skin with her miracle cream - needless to say I left without buying anything and still have the same wardrobe! So, back to the trip, the group went to The Great Wall today but as I had already been, decided not to bother - maybe I should have gone - might have been easier on my confidence :) Had a great night last night - with fabulous food and lots of chat - being on my own made me delighted to talk in English - really enjoyed it. Had a disaster when I got back to the hotel and found a huge cockroach in my room, but got it disposed of, and guess I will have to get used to that sort of thing :( Anyway, my time is nearly up so hope you are all doing well - Thanks for the messages by the way - enoying reading them :) xxxx

Diane Bowie Hi Karen, sounds like you are having an amazing time. Enjoying reading your blog. That's good that your new group is nice. Hope the next stage of your journey in China is good. Horrid cockroaches - can remember them from Dubai!! Take care and stay safe, lots of love Diane xxx
Carrie Lowthian Hi Karen, it all sounds to be going so well for you, I'm glad!! I laughed about the cockroaches, they bring back memories for me too! I remember lying in a hostel reading and one jsut walked lazily past my head, I was in a top bunk! You really do just have to ignore them bast you can and get on with it! Another time, in a hostel in Perth I went to use the microwave, opened the door and about 5 roaches scarpered in all directions!! Funnily enough I didn't use the micro after that...... or any other appliance in the kitchen!! Things in the 'pool are going well, we got our new Puppy Archie Mac, he's just gorgeous and has settled well so far! Scott is delighted with him and we have a precession of school pals coming round to see him ha ha!! Hope you enjoy China, it's good to read about your travels, stay safe, love Carrie xx
