As I dont need to 'sponsor' my own kids anymore have been thinking about sponsoring a family from here. Anyway, fixed it up today and actually met my family, I am so chuffed!! I got a list from the Outreach Centre of those most desperately in need and it was so hard to pick!! I eventually decided on a grandmother who looks after her grandchildren. She is 71 years old and her husband was killed by the Khymer Rouge in the 70s (that visit to the Killing Fields obviously had a big effect on me!) and she was left to bring up her children on her own. She now looks after her 3 grandchildren and lives in the village where most of our kids come from. I went back to the village today on a motorbike with one of the permanent volunteers to meet her. I was worried about the visit as I was so upset the last time, but it was great - my kids were in school and we just went directly to her house. Her house was really clean compared to some and I met her granddaugher who is an absolutely beautiful 21 year old. I knew she had a handicapped grandaughter, but not sure what is wrong with her. She cant walk but she does get out and about on her wheelchair. She says she wasnt born like that but was ill and an injection from the hospital left her paralysed. Anyway, she was so beautiful and so happy, although Im sure that isnt always the case :(. Her two grandsons are currently in our school and I get to donate my bike to them so that its easier for them to get to school so pretty chuffed about that. It costs $40 per month and for that she gets enough rice and sauces for the four of them every month and a small amount of cash. She has no source of income and the boys currently collect cans and beg so they now wont have to do that and will now be able to stay in school and hopefully get a decent job (they are 14 and 11). They are not allowed to beg if they are being sponsored and must attend school or their sponsorship stops. I am happy that the money will be put to good use and that there are strict rules to make sure they dont take advantage. The whole $40 goes to the family so its good to know that my money will certainly be put to good use :). So, thats all my news for the day, feeling pretty chuffed...:) xxxxxx ps - have photographs of them to show you when I get back :)

Liz Woodhouse LOL loved Erlends comment but please do It so that I can have a bambino, want to adopt all of the Syrian refugees flooding into Kurdistan just now... What an amazing day for you and such a lovely thing to do, I'm helping one of the Syrian refugees here as she has no money for food, people shouldn't have to suffer as terribly as they do. Away to book my next charity climb, mount Aconcagua in Argentina, another one of the worlds seven summits so I'm getting through them slowly! 6962m so higher than Kili and will be spending Christmas doing that!! Sounds like you are having an amazing adventure xx
