Another quick update while I wait for my fellow volunteers as we are heading out for dinner then to see the Lady Boys of Cambodia - they seem to get everywhere - wonder if they are as pretty as those in Thailand!? Anyway, today I had my first cooking class - it was a 2 hour class in our lunch 'hour' but was great fun and I realised how much I missed chopping and dicing - Im sure that I will be doing that soon enough when I get back.! Made spring rolls, papaya salad and tofu amok curry. Amok is the local curry and even makes tofu taste great - not sure why China and Cambodia can make tofu taste good - tastes like nothing and has a disgusting consistency at home. We went to the market yesterday and bought some shorts and t shirts to donate to the Outreach Centre as they are always short and also some nappies to hand out. We went to the local market hoping that they wouldnt rip us off as much as the usual ones, but they spotted us coming a mile away - although we did get a discount when we showed them our New Hope badges - every little helps I suppose. School is going much better this week for me, not so upset and starting to really get to know the kids, although I still find myself checking out their hair, although I know that is really bad of me as they cant help it:( The teacher is trying to tell them to wash their clothes etc, but it must be difficult. We are going to buy some bowls, liquid soap and some towels so that we can at least wash their hands before they come into class. The kids come in with sores every day as they run around bare feet in filthy streets and we are at the medical centre around 5 times every day with different kids to get their sores dressed. One girl's ear today was swollen to around twice its normal size, she's only 5 and its such a shame - we managed to get some antibiotics for her though but its so difficult for them to keep it clean. Monsoon season has started to settle in and the rain is amazing - I love the lightening and thunder storms although if I thought it was hard cycling in the potholes in the dry dusty roads its a million times worse when they holes are full of water and you cant see how deep they are - got a puncture this morning before I went to school but luckily there is someone there to help, so it was no problem. Best sign off for now as I am starting to hold everyone up - we dont wont to miss those lady boys....:) Hope all is well with everyone - I love your messages, thanks so much for them :) xxxxxxxxxxxx

Fiona Boyne you are having such an adventure - am sure I'm not alone when I say that on looking at my e-mail and see you've added to your blog, can't wait to read the next instalment! Quite a contrast to life here - meetings most of the morning - vendors being vendors(!), Management of Change info, bacon roll session ..... all very tame in comparison! Weather has now reverted to type and we're back to overcast and grey ....... maybe those 2 sunny days were our summer - shouldn't joke! Monsoon season must be awesome to see - hope you're taking zillions of photos! cheers Fi x
claire Enjoy the Lady boys xx
Donna You will have to give me the recipe with the tofu sounds good and a change from my tofu delight! Sad news about Neo he has bone cancer but I am not giving up hope and feeding the poor dog apricot Kernals along with other lotions and potions its a shame as he is a lovely dog. Hope you enjoyed the ladyboys xxx
Christine Hi Karen. I wrote a great long screed through the night when I couldn't sleep. However when I went to post my hub must have been down and it wouldn't go so this is a short note. I'm not long home from my volunteer job. Its a lovely day has been for about a week now so long may it last. You are cetrtainly seeing some sights most that you probably shouldn't. You'll not view life in quite the same way ever again. My sister Ade is never ceased to be amazed at me for not reading paper or watching news. that's why, its always bad and there's nothing that seems to get better no matter what you try to do. Just to let you know your dad not coming down to 'pool I don't blame him I'm not for living in someone else's house myself these days. You take care madam I think you getting a bit careless. remember you are not 10 feet tall and bullet proof. We have lost enough recently thank you.Lots of Love Christine.
Diane Hya Karen, sounds like you're having an amazing time! Poor children though, at least you are doing your bit :) xx
