I had been warned on my transfer to the hotel last night that the marine park had been closed the last two days. The main attraction of Paracas is the marine park which is sometimes referred to as the poor mans Galapagos and I was hoping to get out on the boat and see some of the famed wildlife.
It was not to be since once again the weather conditions were not playing nice and the park was closed. I was offered another land excursion but decided instead to take a bike offered by the hotel to cycle into the town about 30mins away. I'm really pleased i did, I had a nice morning looking around, seems ceviche is big here and I decided that would be my lunch. The small town was a fishing village and you could see tourism growing as tourists like me flock to do the day trips to the islands to see the wildlife (or not in my case today).
After a couple of hours I cycled back to the hotel, with more time to kill I treated myself to an hour and a halves massage, then some amazing ceviche for lunch.
Once again it was time to get on yet another bus this afternoon to get to Lima. Again only a four hour drive, again the same boring scenery. To be honest this has been the only real disappointment of the whole trip. I knew i'd be taking these buses but I was expecting to pass through substantially more interesting scenery on the way to keep me amused. I guess I should have checked that, lol.
I arrived in Lima and was at the hotel by 8pm. I had an amusing conversation with reception when I realized they'd put me in a room with three single beds. On asking to be moved to a room with a double bed since there was only me, I was told "don't worry mam, it's the same price whether there is one bed or three" er not really the point, lol.
I am staying in the Miraflores district of the city. It's clearly an upscale area where a lot of tourists stay, which is why I was rather baffled to find out that both of the restaurants I'd picked out in advance to possibly eat at were closed. I was unlucky as they were not open on a Sunday. Odd for a Capitol city I thought. I ended up having chicken and chips at a Peruvian equivalent of TGI Fridays I think. Such a shame since I know this city has some amazing places to eat.
