We were picked up at 8:30am for the drive out to Chivay, a small village we will be staying at in the Colca Valley and about 3 hours from Arequipa.
On the way we passed through a national park and spent time looking at Vicuña, Lamas and Alpacas which were roaming throughout. I bought an alpaca scarf at a comfort stop we made. As the old lady selling it was at least 130 years old I did not want to haggle with her, most likely I got ripped off :)
We also stopped at a mirador at 5000 meters for photos of the huge mountains and volanoes surrounding Arequipa. I'm getting pretty used to the extreme altitudes now.
We arrived in the village in time for a buffet lunch and were then taken to the hotel. The plan was to visit the local hot springs but as the weather was bad we abandoned this attempt in favour of a couple of beers at the "local" Irish bar.
That evening we met up for dinner with the Dragoman group who were also in Chivay on the bus having driven up from when we left them in Cusco. It had only been a night apart but it was like a big reunion.
It was another early night since tomorrow we are being picked up at 6am to see the Condors fly (hopefully)
