Vikki: 4 days in Langkawi has been bliss. A pool nearly 150m long, with slides, wave pool and a lazy river, its hard to complain. Has been in constant use by all. We've done quite a few touristy things including hiring a car for a days site seeing. Was great to drive again, and as the general pace of Langkawi is pretty chilled, not too stressful, only had to dodge monkeys on the road once. Most exciting thing for me was on our half day island hopping trip when we saw sea eagles, we were in our boat and the captain threw some food into the sea and then we watched them swoop down and pick it up with their claws - so graceful.
Overall have enjoyed my time in Malaysia, and now looking forward to Vietnam, hoping it may be a little cooler though :)
Raj: Yes, the pool at the resort has been a big draw card (see the video and photos). It's hard to get the kids excited to walk 5 mins down the road to the beach in the heat when the pool is at our doorstep, so my feet have felt less golden sand between the toes than expected. All good though. Another mention goes to the food and beer. The buffet breakfast has a huge selection and I pretty much full up for the day (or others might say make a pig of myself). Every night we've really enjoyed our meals and are spoilt for choice - dinner is cheap from as little as $NZ15 to $NZ45. We've dined in a local food house, garden restaurant, main street restaurant and at a beach bar - where beer was about $NZ1.60! Still cheaper at $NZ1.20 for a roadie from one of many local mini-marts. Of course McDonalds is not to be forgotten for ice creams, chips, and burgers.
Harley: My most exciting thing that I've done was visiting the crocodile farm. We saw crocodiles being fed bunches of fish, a show with lots of tricks like picking up a small crocodile and lying on a enormous croc about 5m long. There were lots of different types and sizes of crocodiles.
Another thing I really enjoyed was the island hopping tour. We went on a small boat to 2 different islands and got to swim in a lake and at a beach. My most favourite was the sea eagles feeding, their wing span was about 1.5m and they snatched the food out of the water using their sharp claws.
Anouk: On Tuesday we drove in our hired car to the 7 pools waterfall. We had to climb up 637 steps to get to the top. We were really hot when we reached the top so we really wanted to jump in one of the pools. There were 7 pools of water in amongst the rocks, some were deep and some were shallow. It was very slippery because there was lots of algae on the rocks. There were some little rock pools and they had tadpoles in them. There were also silver fish in some of the bigger pools. I went into 3 of the pools, 2 were deep and one was shallow. Dad went into all 7 pools. Last night after dinner we looked at some shops and we found some purple shorts that were only 5 Ringgit ($NZ2) and mum bought them for me. They are a perfect fit for me and I am wearing them today.
