Vikki: The last couple of days have flown quickly, checking out the main tourist sites like Notre Dame, the Catacombs, Monet's Musee - Orangerie, Montmarte and more. It's been an education and such extremes from skulls and cross bones to Monet's "Waterlillies".
The most disappointing thing has been the weather, it's cold and we've had to rug up to keep warm. It's a shame as it would have been wonderful to soak up more of the culture and way of Paris on a sidewalk in the sun. Never mind though, tomorrow we get the car and while the thought of driving is sort of scary I also can't wait as we head south for new experiences and hopefully warmer temperatures.
Raj: Even though it's been a bit overcast and cold, I've enjoyed Paris and seen some great sights. Too many tourists though and yes, we saw many scammers and some thieves (working as a group I believe) so one could not be too careful in the "city of love". While we leave Paris tomorrow morning we actually end up staying and later returning in other parts of France. Not sure if it will get warm enough to swim at our next stop - we are camping by a river and there is a swimming pool also. For the next 77 days we have a car - a brand new Peugeot with GPS. Vikki is the designated driver as usual which leaves me free to not get into too much trouble!
Harley: Yesterday we went to the catacombs. We had to walk down 132 steps into the tunnels. When we got down we saw the bones of 6 million people stacked up. There were leg and arm bones and skulls. We took lots of photos.
Today we went to Montmartre and visited the Sacre Coeur church and looked at the shops on the streets around it. We ate our first crepes - mine was with rich chocolate sauce. There were also lots of artists drawing caricatures of people (cartoon faces).
Tomorrow we are going to pick up our car and drive to Saumur which is about 5 hours away and camp there for 3 nights staying in a tent.
Anouk: I really enjoyed the catacombs. We saw skulls that were shaped into a heart in a wall. Some of the skeletons had their jaws wide open like they were screaming. My favourite part was when we saw lots of bones stacked in a barrel shape. Tomorrow I am really looking forward to getting our new car and going camping.
