Another day dawns sunny and dry. More cloud today but it’s nice enough. After a hearty french breakfast we decamp to the van and set out for the coast. We decide to go north towards Barfleur and take in the sights as we drive sedately down country lanes and tracks. At Saint Vasst la Haugue we stop and have a wander around the port and town area. Very quaint and unmolested town that feels very french!! We watch the trawlers unload their catch of the day and visit a few shops before sitting down for coffee in a small bar.
A large castle on a spit of land catches our eye so we decide to go exploring. Driving to the sit we find you can walk around the whole castle on the walls which separate it from the sea. At high tide this would be a dangerous occupation but the sea is on its way out so the going is safe, although a good pair of shoes rather than flip flops may have been more prudent. On up the coast to Barfleur also a very nice port with some good restaurants in which we sit down and partake of the local delicacy....mussels and chips. Very tasty and delicious they were too.
Trev asked what we had achieved from our trip as it was the penultimate day. I said that 21 days on the road, 3500 miles later we are still talking to each other!!! Not bad for three grumpy middle aged men!!!
