In Pago Pago, the ship overhang the quay in the natural harbour formed by a flooded volcanic crater. We walked around the crater enjoying the surrounding tropical forested mountains and the warmth and hospitality of the people.Their dress was particularly colourful. It WAS very hot in Pago Pago with the sun directly overhead. So in the afternoon we spent on board. We were entertained by a show of music and dancing, 'Taupou Manaia', by local ladies and children....

Another four days of lectures about the Pacific and our upcoming Ports of Call. We learnt about the geological formation of the Pacific and its islands, how the first migrants arrived, the early European explorers and then the Americans and the Whalers, and World War 11 in the Pacific.
