Ok so we got the bus to Noosa at about lunch time, only 2 1/2 hours from Brisbane. Once we got there we were picked up by Gagaju, the company who we're doing the bush walk and camp with. A slightly strange man picked us up and took us to the supermarket to buy some food and drink, on the bus we met Emma and Jason a really nice couple from Portsmouth. Once we were all stocked up we went off to the camp, first impressions were not good! It was like going back in time in a really creepy film! As we drove through we saw a lot of tents, belonging to people who apparently came on holiday here and never left! To this Jason said "thats because they were murdered!!"... the whole place really did have that vibe! Anyway the dorm we stayed in that night wasnt actually too bad, not proper matresses or anything but the beds were good enough to sleep on. After an early breakfast we had a meeting at 8am to tell us about the day. There were about 12 people in our group and the man got the map out and showed us where we were going to canoe to!... Canoe!!!!!?!!.... This was not what I signed up for! It was too late to back out by then so off we went down to the river and got in the canoes. The first part of the day wasn't too bad, the tide was helping us and we stopped off on a beach to have lunch, chatting with Emma and Jason and also Another couple from Cardiff. It wasn't untill we went to head back that it got hard, the tide and wind were against us and it was almost impossible to get anywhere! Unfortunately for tom he was in a canoe with me and Emma, who was probably as weak and unenthusiastic as I was!! We got well behind the rest of the group and did our fair share of moaning, in spite of all Tom's positive encouragement!!! By the time we got back I was aching all over, with nothing to look forward to but the traditional bush toilets (a hole in the ground!)
We had a few drinks that evening, and in the process in wondered a crazy drunken Australian man trying to sell his rock (which had opal in it or something), or swap it for a beer! Quite surreal. When it was time for bed we went off to our tents for the night, a tiny tent which we couldn't lie out straight in and nothing but a roll mat to sleep on, which was about as comfortable as lying on a paper bag! Next morning, supposed to be day 2 of canoeing, we checked out and headed back to town to find some normality!! Checked into a hostel for a night and met Tom's friend Kirstin from back home for some drinks. Next morning we met up with Kirstin again and also Beth, another of Tom's old friends, and had breakfast. They kindly gave us a lift to the bus station, via the view point over Noosa, at least we got to see a bit of it from here before leaving!
