The hilarious thing is we really could have been drug smuggling murderers and all we would have had to do is speak in our English accent and any policeman in the states wouldn't give a fluck.
As soon as we spoke, he just waved us on. It seems they only stop people from certain ethnicity typings.
I decided to continue driving for another 100 miles to the next town, instead of stopping at our planned stop. Half on a whim, half as the planned stop looked like a rape destined to happen... And obviously, I worried for Rob.
It was the best decision I took on the whole trip as the next few days were full of great experiences. Memories made for ever.
Welcome to Las Cruces....
We were talk of the town when we hit up a local bar on the first night, meeting some awesome locals who seem to have never heard or met a British person in the lives. We had a great time drinking and sharing stories from both sides of the pond.
One guy told us abut the biggest water park in the world, just 6 hours or so away, in Texas. We were sold.... Next stop Texas!
These were the first white Americans we had met, and they were pretty cool. Shelby in particular had a ridiculous name but was a really chilled out uni student who organised a free cab home for us later that night. The uni pays to get drunk students back to campus!
Katie and I also, almost unbelievably met some 'Greek Mexicans,' by total chance at the bar. As always we tried to work out if we were related, then decided to go to his restaurant for lunch the next day to discuss things further.
At that point, I had lost most the ability to speak. Apparently tipping bar men means triple shots of vodka on every drink.
We started the next day at the Greek/Mexican restaurant, feeling worse for wears. They brought over a drink consisting of vodka, beer,Tabasco sauce and tomato sauce. Apparently a dead cert to get rid of a hang over.... The next 6 hours or so were a blur.
We were offered a trip across the boarder to Mexico, which, with a heavy heart, we turned down due to the fact that there was an admitted 75% chance of us getting shot or our hands chopped off!
Las Cruces was awesome, personally my favourite place on the road trip. The next few days we would be in Texas, spending time in a few little towns with steak houses and rodeo, and also visiting San Antonio and 'Shlitterbhan,' the water park.
Time to sober up and hit the road again, just the brief 500 mile trip to our next stop. I'm hoping for a steak bigger than my head.
Peace and Greek Mexicans
