Well Zoe's on a lunch time shift today, and there's no point in me going out and collecting as no one is home during the day, so I've been roped in to writing the blog. I think I've done more than my fair share alredy but never mind. Since last time we've been trying to mix going to the attractions of Melbourne with working and trying to keep a balance netween money coming in and going out. The main thing we've done is the Great Ocean Road. This was a full day trip which included going to Bell's beach, a big surfing beach, where the end of point break is filmed (that keanu reeves film about bank robbing surfers). We then went to Split Point lighthouse, which would just be another lighthouse, but is in fact the 'Round the twist' lighthouse, which makes it a hugely important lighthouse. Before lunch we then spotted wild Koalas, which wasn't as hard as I imagined as they were just sitting pretty obviously in the trees, looking at us. There were also Rosellas (red birds) there which we fed and landed on our hands to eat from them but then got a bit carried away and started landing on heads and shoulders whether you had food or not. Driving between all these places we were on the Great Ocean Road, whichwas cool. It has amazing views, but is very windy all the way, luckily no one on our tour was car sick, but it was a bit surprising. We then arrived at the 12 Apostles (all 7 of them as our tour guide like to say), which is what the photo above is of, they are all stacks in the sea, and 'm assuming there were 12 at one point but some have collapsed, but that wasn't really explained. We also 'London Bridge' which used to be two natural arches strecthing out into the sea, but then one collapsed so it's not accessable anymore. Apparently two people were on it when one arch collapsed, they were on the other one so were fine, but had to be airlifted back to safety. It got a lot of media attention and so the guy's wife saw him on TV and realsied he was lying about being on a buisness trip but was having an affair! It was a really good day but didn't quite match Phillip Island in my opinion.
As well as this we have been up Eureka Tower, the tallest observation desk in the southern hemisphere. The view up there was amazing, it's quite a lot taller than most the other tallest buildings so it's a unobstructed view, and you can see for miles. They have loads of viewing things which direct your eye to landmarks, and also have a couple of free binocular things saw you can get better views of things far away, or just watch people walking around below you.
We've also been doing normal non-touristy things, like going to the cinema to see Untraceable (a internet website murderer man, being hunted by the FBI), and the new Indian Jones. Both were good, though Indie was definately better just because it was Indie really. We've also splashed out a couple of time (sort of) going out for nice meals, using buy one meal get one free vouchers, but both were lovely. We've also become part of a pub quiz team, with Zoe's friend Mike and some of his friends. It's a really good quiz and luckily it's not all about Austalian things so we can actually answer some questions (sometimes). We basically come third all the time with the same two teams beating us, and they give prizes for 1st and 2nd (great!). Theres a jackpot prize (everyone puts in a dollar) at the end though which is 2 questions and if you get them both right you win. It's been rolled over about 4 weeks now, so were just hoping we win that next week and get the about $400, and aren't bothered about the actual quiz anymore. Me and Zoe nearly single handedly won it the other week by naming the 4 bond movies with Pierce Brosnan as Bond, but then only got 3 out of the 5 Britney albums, so close!
And yeah, thats about it really (I don't know how Zoe has been bothered to keep this up so far, typing the blog is a lot more boring than playing stick cricket) apart from the above, Zoe's been working pretty regularly, often having split shifts of 12-3 then 5-12/1/2/3. Which kill her but she seem sto enjoy workign at the pub and likes who she works with. I've been collecting from 5-7 most day, longer on weekends, and then eating reduced food from coles (bread, muffins, donuts, picklets), drinking tea and watching TV (mainly AFL, aussie rules football, and the IPL, 20-20 cricket) in the evenings that Zoe's working.
So thats all up to date, and I'll maybe upload some photos later if I can be bothered, but right now I'm off to coles to see what bargains I can find. Hope all is good with everyone, and I haven't bored you too much. Zoe will probably write the next one so it'll be back to normal then!
