We finally managed to persuade ourselves to leave the Perhentian Islands, after seven days relaxing and enjoying the most fantastic island we have ever been to. We could have stayed for weeks but have so much more that we want to see in south-east Asia. We got a minibus transfer to the Cameron Highlands (there was a boat for the first bit!). It was all very easy and civilzed. We were dropped off at our guest house, where we are staying in an old British Nissen hut (corrugated metal construction, which sounds great when it rains, which it does quite well up here), up on the hill overlooking the town of Tanah Rata, the main town here in the Highlands. We managed to go and get scones and cream at a tea shop (we had to do something to avoid the rain). Today is bright and sunny, although we haven't really planned anything to take advantage of it. There are plenty of treks to do in the area: some are gentle strolls (so they say), but some sound too much like hard work. There are also jeep-based trips up some of the higher hills! The temperature is fairly pleasant up here, and you need a blanket at night - a bit of a change from KL and Singapore, although the weather was already a little cooler on the Perhentians. The area has quite a British feel to it, especially with all of the strawberry farms and Land Rovers. We're not sure how long we're going to spend here. We are currently rethinking our plans for Thailand after speaking to lots of other travellers about what they have done and where they have been. Our next (and last) stop in Malaysia is Penang, from where we will probably get the train into southern Thailand.
