Merry Chritmas! Hope you are all having a good day with those turkeys. We've set up our mini-xmas tree and have decor over our bags.
We made it to Saigon.... woohoo. We also found somewhere to stay after 3 hours of being denied from every guesthouse. Suprise suprise most places are full in Saigon at christmas. We reminded ourselves we are idiots. Unfortunately we had to settle for somewhere more luxury than our norm, with TV, fridge, hot water and free bananas!!!!!!!
We spent our last day in Sianoukville touring islands and fishing. We caught plenty of fish (Zoe caught the biggest) using only a plastic bottle with hook & line. We ate bbq baracuda on a deserted island for lunch. It was similar to paradise. We found a medium-sized block of polystyrene which we took a liking to; we intend to drag it around with us for the next few months.
Yesterday we planned to go to the national museum, but ended up at the water park instead which was mega amazing fun. We assure you the slides are fasssst (and landing pools too shallow). Today we ate lots of bread and cheese & booked our trips for the next few days. It was a bit confusing with the new currency again; 28000 Dong to the pound, though they also use dollars when they feel like it, changing the exchange rate to how it suits them. We also tried to take a cyclo to the co-op supermarket. We managed to confuse Mr Cyclo, who ended up taking us on an hour-long tour of the cities co-ops. By the time we realized, we were too embarassed to say anything so we sat back and enjoyed the ride. Traffic here is similar to that of Bangkok (crazy), except it doesn't stop moving. Even when you are trying to cross.
Going down to the Delta for a few days to see if we can catch the recent bird flu outbreak. As for now, we're off to walk to the co-op.
Thanks for the messages,
Sarah & Zoe xxx
