Zak and Mel's Excellent Adventure
After talking to you all last we headed off on the Whitsunday Magic for 3 nights sailing round the Whitsunday Islands. The boat we went on was an old fashioned schooner (to non sailing people - like me! it was a big boat with large sails and was very pretty! Not one of these flash, yacht type things). We went snorkelling in a place called Blue Pearl Bay which is on Hayman Island as well as the Giant Footsteps on the Great Barrier Reef. Saw some amazing fish and turtles. We both had underwater cameras so hopefully we'll get to show you! We also went to Tongue Bay and Whitehaven Beach which is supposedly the 2nd most beautiful beach in the world (although we don't know what the 1st is!). After 4 days at sea we were both happy to be back on dry land but were both suffering from sea legs. We decided to stay one more night at Airlie Beach as we didn't feel up to driving due to a late night drinking on the boat. We met some really nice people who we hope to stay in touch with. Our next stop was the Capricorn Caves just north of Rockampton. We stayed here one night and went on a guided tour the following morning. Next day we headed to the coast and went to Yeppoon, Emu Park and Rosslyn Bay. We decided to stay in Yeppoon as the following day was Zak's bday and they had an Australia Day celebration down on the beach too. It was a good day and I took the opportunity to sing happy birthday, get candles put in his food and get them to do a shout out over the pa system for him. He was not amused!! Four days after leaving the Whitsunday Magic both of us were still feeling the effects of the sailing trip so we decided to go to the dr's and found out we both had water in our middle ear and this was what was affecting our balance. Anyway, all sorted now thanks to some decongestant! After Zak's birthday we drove to a cattle farm stay for the night. Its a working farm where you get the chance to help out, so we fed chickens, milked the cow, branded new cattle, did some horse riding, fed the orphaned joey's and did other farm yard stuff. We've gone veggie at the moment which they found highly amusing (not!). We then headed back to the coast to a little place called Agnes water and the town of 1770. So called because this is where Captain first landed in QLD in that year. Yesterday we both had another surf lesson and really enjoyed it, so we are going to look at buying some second hand boards on the gold coast. Today we ars just chilling out on the beach and not doing much. Hope you are all well, and thanks for the messages love us xoxoxo.
