Arrived in the Cook Islands on Monday 29th Oct after very long flight via Los Angeles. Short but very expensive transfer from the airport to our 'Sunset Resort' - which turned out to be 5 mins down the road from Airport at a ridiculous cost!. Had second breakfast of the day at 9am in resort, went back to sleep after and then woke up about an hour later throwing up - start of holiday!. First day was a write off for me as had 'Delhi Belly' all day long, lots of sleeping in between. Second day, we hired a Scooter from town and I experienced Snorkelling for the first time (yeah I know!), was lots of fun. Loving the bike. Had a go on the bike yesterday off road and considering I have never ridden a mophed/scooter and havnt driven for 10 years thought I was doing rather well till I could'nt stop the bike!, skidded to a halt (was only going about 20k at the time)and put my foot down as a reflex action and cut the underside of my toe up, ouch. Needless to say, I'll let Jules drive from now on.....been there done that, not doing it again!. Day 3, Jules Parents also arrived as we are here to celebrate his dad's 60th Birthday with him which is tommorrow if you're in the Cook Islands or today (2nd Nov) if you are in UK or NZ! so he's going to celebrate his Birthday twice!.
The Island is Idylic - and yes it looks just like the picture!, lush jungle mountains, idylic beahces, lots and lots of snorkelling & diving opportunities, still have to find the best beach on the Island though.....weather has also been very changeable, moody and stormy but very little rain, mostly cloudy but obviously very warm still, around 26 - 30 degrees c. No suntan for me yet as have spent a lot of time indoors considering, and under clouds. Right, going to get out in the sun while its out now!. Loving the experience though.
NZ coming up next week........
