Ometepe island is 2 volcanoes joined together situated in the middle of Nicaragua Lake. The ferry was only 1 hour from the mainland and then we caught a taxi from the ferry town to a little town called Santa Domingo. This town was tiny with only about 5 restaurants and 2 hostels that's it. This was nice though after a few big nights in San Juan del Sur. We had a nice bungalow on the beach and there were plenty of hammocks to chill out in. That arvo we just chilled at the hostel and then the next day again just chilled out and checked out the local lagoon which kinda looks man made but it was very nice and refreshing. They had a rope swing which everyone did but me. I was a bit scared and saw Em who we were with slip and get very close to the edge changed any thought I had of doing it.
The next day was my real birthday and we decided to climb Maderas Volcano. Our morning was ment to start at 4.30am with a knock on our door from the guide but he was knocking on the wrong door so at 5am we get a knock from Em saying its 5am as the local bus is already here. We jump out of bed and get ready in 5 mins luckily the bus waited for us. It was only about a 30mins bus trip to another little town where we had to walk 1km to this restaurant where we had some breakfast before our climbing started. At 7am we left and at 12noon we finally arrived at the top where there was a crater lake which we could swim in but it was a bit muddy and we were all to stuffed so just had a picnic and chilled for a bit. It was nice on the way up with a nice view of the other volcano although it was quite hot. On the way down which is always a bit harder on the joints there were a few slips and falls but we finally made it down in about 3.5hours.
Once we arrived back we had the best shower ever and then dinner, basketball and then bed. We packed up the following morning and headed back to the ferry town. We had heard of this great restaurant that has the best eggs Benedict in the world so we had to try and yep it was by far the best breakfast we had had in Central America. We caught the 1pm ferry back to Rivas where from there we had to catch a chicken bus to Granada which is another town on the Lake Nicaragua.
