Just a flying visit to Montreal which is basically a sister to Quebec City In my opinion. The main attraction we wanted to see was the Notre Dame Basilique so we went straight to it that afternoon.
It truly is a beautiful church. Built in 1829 with its extremely detailed carved wood and stained glass windows along with 5000 gold leaf stars on the roof.
It is used for so many things such as weddings, funerals, choirs, concerts, shows, services etc. Celine Dion even got married here! It is also famous for its casavant organ which holds 7000 pipes.
We managed to see a 4pm showing where a guy that has been playing the organ for 45 years did a movie themed performance for us. I'm not really into classical music but this sounded pretty awesome I must admit!
Our hotel was in a perfect location so everything was in walking distance. However inside we found it to be like faulty towers. Not a whole lot worked and the bed was so tiny me and kirsty were practically spooning haha. Kirsty left a very funny yet angry review for them on booking.com.
The streets were packed because they were setting up for some kind of festival which was taking place at the weekend.
We went across the street to the first restaurant we could find as it had started to chuck it down again.
This was one of the biggest restaurants I had ever seen spanning over 3 floors and we still had to que to get a seat. Food was average but portions were insane!!
The following morning we did an architectural walking tour of the city - guided by me and my little piece of paper. I'm surprised we made it to the end but we did. Was nice just to stroll around and see Montreal on shoe string in some nice weather at last.
Next stop - We are going cowboy style in Calgary. Yeeeehaaaaa xx
