Day 1 Vancouver
Because we have the car 2 more days we decided to make use of it and head on a 20 minute journey to grouse mountain and capilano suspension bridge which we did first.
The bridge is set in a private park, and stretches 137m long, In other words just as long as 2 Boeing 747 airplanes wingtip to wingtip. And it's just as aerodynamic. The bridge stands 70m tall over capilano Canyon surrounded by giant trees. It can hold 90,000kg, that's 96 elephants crossing at the same time no problem! Pretty impressive.
First we did the tree top trails, which wrapped around the cliffs and in between the trees. It was working us up for the big finale.
We had to queue for the bridge but after 20mins or so we were walking across it to the other side. It was super shaky but neither of us was scared we just found it fun! At the other side there were treehouse trails and nature trails which we did. The weather that day was really hot at around 32 degrees.
In the afternoon we headed to grouse mountain - 'the peak of Vancouver' reached by a cable car or a 1.5hr hike. This is a mountain top playground! We walked along a path and came across the lumberjack show which was starting in 10 minutes so we took a seat for that. It was basically two lumberjacks competing in varies different activities and being really cheesy but it was good anyway. We did get to see them perform some pretty cool tricks like, carving logs, climbing really tall trees with no harnesses and balancing on a rolling log in the water. When that had finished we carried on along the same path following the bear footprints and got to the grizzly bear enclosure. We saw the grizzly straight away, it wasn't as good as seeing it in the wild but these guys are still amazing up close. The Bears are in there because they got injured then couldn't defend themselves in the wild anymore. After watching them for a good 20 mins we walked a bit further and came across a bird show that was starting up. We watched a bald eagle not do as it was told habana do then we saw Hawks owls and other big birds fly over our head and catch food etc.
It was time to head back down in the gondola.
We had already decided that tonight we were going to go this thai restaurant that we spotted on our drive in yesterday. The food was really good and we were both stuffed! Great fun packed day!
