We got to palace backpackers saturday night and met our seven person team who we would be driving, eating, drinking and sleeping with. It was a great group including four Canadians,a swiss guy and us. We done shopping and then had an early night ready for a 6am briefing!! With our 4 by 4's packed we headed to the barge then Fraser. Its beautiful, a 100km square sand island ( the biggest in the world).
Day 1:
We headed to lake Birrabeen with crystal clear water and sand so clean we all washed our whole bodies with it including hair and teeth!! Ian our brilliant tourguide took us for a walk round the rainforest, which was so unique from anywhere else on earth due to the sand.We then went to lake Wabby which was hidden in the massive sand dunes. There everyone ran down the dunes and dived into the water. I (simon) took my turn at the wheel a couple of times throughout the trip which was a great but scary experience!!!!We finished the day with cooking a bbq and drinking wine back at base camp next to the sea.
Day 2:
We drove along the beach to the maheno shipwreck which was a good photo opportunity plus was steeped in history all explained by our tourguide. From here we drove to indian head had lunch in the shade and after trekked to the top. From here we went to the champagne pools which when waves break over the rocks pumps bubbles in the pool,so a lush natural spa! Lastly we went to Eli creek where we tasted the purest water on earth and then all flowed down the creek out to the ocean! Luckily for us we stayed up late with another couple and saw wild dingoes roaming around our camp!!
Day 3:
We packed up camp and headed for lake McKenzie the most famous lake here. We swam in the tropical coloured water and relaxed. Shattered we headed back to Hervey Bay and all treated ourselves to as much pizza hut pizza our tired, sunburnt bodies could handle!!!
