Our border crossing from Peru into Bolivia was really easy, it was a matter of walking into one room to get an exit stamp then into the next room to get an entry stamp. We soon arrived to our destination Copacabana and after about 7 hostels we managed to find one that had space.
We only planned to stay for one night here as time is starting to run away from us. We walked around the town which took only a few minutes and found a cute little restaurant. We were warned by a number of people to always have a few choices for dinner as Bolivia is known for having nothing!! So true to this fact we finally managed to find something the restaurant thought they had and ordered. While we were waiting (nowhere in South America has fast service) i decided to try and book us a tour to Island Del Sol. After going into a few shops i bumped into two New Zealand girls, and for once their Spanish was worse than mine! We listened to what the man was telling us and liked the sound of it so then it was up top me to bargain the tour down. Luckily we were only dealing with small numbers so we all soon agreed on a price and the tour was booked! I then returned to the restaurant to find that both our meals were missing items. We asked where our egg and mash was and they just said "no" oh well! We were also told that most Bolivias don´t like travelers and we were soon to discover like the lack of menu the friction between travelers and locals was apparent!
Our tour started at 8.30 so we had an early night so we would be fresh for the next day. The tour didn´t start on the best foot as it was raining and the boat was over filled. As we have been traveling for a few months now we have both managed to loose our "British queuing" system and pushed our way to the front to get a seat out of the rain. The petrol for the boat leaked over an old couple and a stroppy child started to cry and we were off! The boat was crewed by one man who looked so hung over he used his foot to drive the boat and that was for 30 people! there were no life jackets or life rafts, not that this mattered too much as we were traveling so slow it was unreal. Two hours later we arrived at the island and we went to explore with our new New Zealand friends. The walk took all of 5 minutes as the weather wasn´t great and nothing was open! We all decided to look for a cafe and get a warm drink! Most of the cafes were so tiny only one group of people could fit in, but eventually we found one! we ordered our drinks then about an hour later we got them! We then asked for some bread and the waitress said they were out, however she kept bring other tables bread....! We drank up and went for another walk round the other side of the island and climbed some rocks to get better pictures. We then jumped back onto the boat and headed to the south part of the island. I am not sure if it is another British thing but we like to keep on time! after leaving an hour late we arrived to find an entrance tax waiting for us! (We have named Bolivia ticket country, there is a fee and ticket for EVERYTHING!) As we were so unimpressed with the other island and we only had half an hour we decided to play cards on the boat. Our journey back was like the journey out there, which made our joint decision that Island Del Sol wasn´t worth the 2 whole pounds we paid for it! We did manage to jump on a locals bus which took us to La Paz that night so we were free!
