So we were leaving Sydney heading for some Australian Culture, nature and the great outdoors!!
We rose at 5am hurled on our backpacks and headed for central station in the dark!! after much confusion about what station to be at we climbed aboard the Oz Experience, we were to spend the next 3 days with 14 people from all around the world and a crazy tour guide called Gollum!!
Day 1
We headed to Canberra the capital city (choosen purely because the two main citys Melbourne and Sydney could not decide between themselves, there is not a hell of a lot to do in Canberra its kinda one of those places that most of the rules of the land are decided people are pretty straight laced and the streets are set out a little like toy town!!) We visited parliament house which was kinda cool although it appeared slightly mirrored to ours, red and green seats etc but it was newer and very posh!! After arriving a half hour late for the bus in Canberra town to find they had left without us we thought from now on we must be on our best behavior (don't laugh it was frightening thinking all our bags and practically everything we owned was on the bus!!) From there we went to the war memorial and an Australian cultural arts museum which again was fab! But after a long day had started to feel like school trip so we were glad to be back on the bus socializing heading for our nights stay at Lake Jindabine in the snowy mountains!! Yes and it was freezing soooo cold we couldn't quite believe it, the snowy mountains were getting ready for their snow season……Australia, summer clothes and snow!! Its just not right!! Actually we had a fab time we ate and stayed in a little sky resort kinda log cabin place right next to Lake Jindabine, after dinner we played pool table tennis had a little drink and met many aussie friends, loved Lake Jinabine even if it was a little chilly!!
Day 2
The next day we rose at 6am after a light breakfast headed for a 10k treck up into the snowy mountains, it was beautiful…….. and very cold we even saw some snow lol!! People very getting the sky lifts and snow hotels ready for the snow fall was kinda surreal, from here we spent the day the lake some boarded some hired canoes we just chilled in the sunshine glad to be back in the warm well warm ish!!
We headed the four hour trip to a place called Lakes entrance, yes you guessed it its where the many lakes meet the sea…again a very beautiful place but just too cold after Cairns it just not what we were used it!!
We spent the night at a friendly little café all 14 of us and Gollum!! Had our tea (tea the ozzies find this so funny!! Or well strange…) and settled at a local family run YHA hostel, we got an early night as we had another 6am start in the morning!!
Day 3
We headed for the lakes to watch the sunrise it was a realy cool scene….. one we would never get to see again anytime soon, Australia have the best sun sets and sun rises…..oh yeah and black Swans with red beaks how different to back home?? Just as beautiful though…..from here we made the long trip to Melbourne…we traveled through a original spiritual aboriginal home…..a national park that really did feel spiritual, we stopped at many sights, went bush walking looking for Kangroos and Wombats of which we saw, oh and Lucy spotted a Koala up in a tree he was so cute a little furry chubby one clung to a tree (so cool how they can grip so well) we all got out to take a pic, we ate our lunch on the beach and went for another 5k walk along the coast, it was such a lot to take in over 3 days but we loved every minute of it, we also made some really cool friends two of which were Danish girls that were spending the next week in Melbourne with us so we arranged to meet up and spend some time together which we felt would be fun fun fun!! Gives us a head start in Melbourne….let the good times roll ….whoop whoop!!
