Petra
The world is my school today my classroom is in Petra, Jordan.
I spent hours hauling myself up "stairs". I felt just like the camels and donkeys I shared the steps with, we were all exhausted.
The donkeys were tortured by having heavy people on their backs while they lug them up 800 worn out stairs. We went on foot up these killer stairs, because it looked really scary going up by donkey. We even saw a small overloaded donkey trip on the stair while someone was on it and it got right back up. It made me feel so sad for the donkey!
On the other hand, it was kind of cool watching all the donkeys sprinting down the stairs on the way down (with no one on them). Thy finally looked like they were having some fun.
The Bedouins were in charge of all the donkeys and camels. They also sold a lot of things on the side of the stairs. They sold necklaces, bracelets, headdresses that the Bedouins wear in the desert and many other trinkets. They had a very good sense of humor and were always selling something for one dinar. Although, we never bought anything for one dinar.
Once we got to the top we saw the amazing site, even with a risk taker on top of it. It was this really tall building built into the sandstone and a Bedouin man had climbed up the side and sat down with his feet drooping over the side. The monstrous site was beautiful. It felt so good to go inside the building because we had the wind coming through the door but we were hidden from the sun so it was nice and cool.
After a while we decide to go up to the view from the highest point to see Petra and the desert, it was an amazing birds eye view! I was very tired from going up 800+ stairs but also very proud of myself for doing it, although a few times I dragged behind my mom or dad and we had a lot of breaks. During the whole world tour I don't think there has been any day that we haven't gotten any exercise.
Soon we get some water and start going down. It is so much easier going down because you are using gravity instead of fighting it. When we got halfway down there was an adorable probably 5month old puppy barking at my mom's shoes. Once she walked away he started barking at mine, he was a little, muddy, spotted, fuzzy puppy.
Once we get to the bottom of the stairs we walked through a canyon to get to the exit. Halfway though the canyon we see a Japanese lady sitting down waiting for her husband being harassed by six 8 year olds. They were really getting in her face. They were being so mean to this lady that she started crying. Soon superman/Dad came in and said to the boys "HEY! Leave her alone! Scram! Get out of here! What do you think your doing?!" One boy was really overconfident and said, "who do you think you are? Don't touch me! No, you go away!" After a while batman/a man riding a horse cart rider came and yelled at the boys in their language and said that he should say sorry to the lady. He went to say sorry to the lady and laughed while he was doing it. "If you were sorry you would've left in the first place instead of continuing to get in her face" Dad replied to the 8 year old. After a short stare down the boys friends started pulling him away. The lady saw her husband and everyone said goodbye once he came. While we continued I didn't feel well and I said to my Dad that I could've actually puked on them if I wanted to.
We had another tiring but very interesting day. If I was to repeat this day I would make sure that I wasn't sick and I would bring much more cold water.

Gran Gautney Hi Bell, Wow! I know I couldn't have done those stairs...Good Job! Those donkeys remind me of the "dog" that is coming into our lives. Do you know when?? Will it be in Portland? I am so excited about it. The donkeys reminded me because I know that any dog that lives with you guys will be treated so much better than those poor donkeys. Let me know the latest on the dog thing when you can! Much love, Gran
Aunt DeeAnn Way to go Bell! 800 stairs -- I don't think that I could do it. It sounds like an amazing experience (except for the mean kids -- I'm glad that your Dad stepped in). We all love you and miss you. XOXO
Paige Bell! What an amazing accomplishment climbing so many stairs! I am sure the beautiful view at the top was worth the climb. It sounds very scary to climb up all of the stairs on a donkey. I am glad that your dad was standing up for that lady. I miss you! xx
World Rings Bell To Gran, I HOPE THE DOG COMES IN PORTLAND!!!!
World Rings Bell Luv you all and miss you all as well! xxoo
