Taj Mahal
The world is my school today my classroom is at the Taj Mahal in Agra, India.
The Taj Mahal was built for remembrance of Queen Mumtaz Mahal by the order of her husband Shah Jahan. Shah Jahan was told 3 things by Mumtaz right before she died while having her 14th child (which did not survive). The first thing was that Shah Jahan would take care of their children. Second that he would never marry another woman in his lifetime. Third that he would always keep her close to his heart. He fulfilled all of these wishes and in order to make the 3rd one happen he had the Taj Mahal built out of pure white marble in her honor. Every day after it was built he sat and watched it, he forgot about his kingdom and only worried about Mumtaz. Shah Jahan wanted another Taj Mahal built for him but this time made out of black marble. It started getting built but he was taken to jail before it was done and had his tomb put next to his wife's in the Taj Mahal. He was taken to prison by his son who was 4th in line but killed his 3 older brothers and got lot's of India on his side that his father was not helping the society but only his wife. He died when he was 72, many years after his wife died at 36. Before Shah Jahan was taken to prison he sat in a building across from the Taj Mahal everyday and would pray for her and think about all the great times they had together.
Now I will tell you about how the Taj was built.
Sandstone brick built it but this is not visible, inside and out the bricks was covered with white marble, which has survived through the toughest storms, hottest times and coolest times in Agra, India. The pictures in the marble are inlay not paintings. The paint would come off much to easy so all of the picture have been carved in out in the marble and different colored stones would be placed in to make the pictures. There were even some stones put in that were ¼ of a millimeter wide and about 1cm long. Imagine how beautiful it would have been with the carpets and sparkling jewels everywhere!
