The world is my school today my classroom is at a carpet store learning how the carpets are made and finding a good one to buy.
Carpets can be in all different shapes, sizes, colors, designs, and patterns. Having your pattern being read out in a code for the pattern makes it easier to get the job done. Then you would get whatever color string and loop it around a rougher string, called the warp. The rougher string is the one that you'd find as a fringe on the sides of a carpet or on the bottom of the carpet. Once you are done with this then you go to cutting where you have a special pair of scissors that have a flat edge and you would cut it so that it was all level. At some places the next step would be burning the bottom to make sure that it is all one material and there is no plastic in the carpet. Not all places do this and at the places that don't you already have your final piece. It sounds easy and quick but it is hard and most of the time takes 2-8 months to do, depending on the size of the carpet. Sometimes each square meter can have one million knots!

Gran Gautney Wow Bell!! I have always loved Indian and Persian carpets...to me they are like the canvas of an artist. Your blog makes me believe this even more. How much has to be accomplished by hand and how much can be accomplished by a helpful machine?? Love you much, Gran
