So after 2 nights it's time to hit the road again, this time we are making the 18 hour journey to Vientiane. First comes the boat ride back to the mainland, this might sound easy but add your rucksack onto your back whilst trying to climb onto a rocking little fishing boat and it already becomes much harder than you can imagine. However after that obstacle course, and of course then grabbing your bag off the swaying boat at the other side we had "made" it. Next upto the bus station to wait for our bus with the 40 something other people all heading towards our first stop of pakse. As the bus arrived, we all shoved our bags underneath and hopped on board. However to our horror 30 minutes came the sound of a very long bang, oh only the suspension gone. Cue the hour wait for another bus! Relieve does not explain the feeling we had when another bus rocked up, however it didn't have air con! What an absolute joke! 4 hours and 30 minutes sat in our sweat along with 45 other people was not fun one bit! Finally we arrived in pakse. Quick stop, infact just enough time to get some tea before heading to the night bus. The night buses in Laos are very similar to the ones in Vietnam, however this time the beds are in doubles. Awkward when we are a group of 3. However last night we had decided the fairest way to decide who was going to be spooning a stranger was to get 3 straws and someone would then draw the short straw. However Charlotte messed the straw cutting up so it was actually the person who drew the long straw was the loser. This time it was Georgie. However as we were boarding the night bus we met 3 other people who we quickly found out had the other half to Georgie's bed, not so bad after all. We stayed up on the bus playing card games, a******* is quickly becoming the favourite and drinking the local beer Laos before heading off to our doubles for a kip on the night bus, turns out me and Charlotte drew the "long" straw as next to our bed was a baby, yes! Love being woken up to the sound of crying 7 times a night.
