Okay I'm back. I just had a real shock. I went into the local Budget car rental shop only to be told that the car I wanted for my trip between Edmonton and Vancouver was going to cost me nearly 3000 Dollars (Canadian not U.S.)
Well I am discovering that thinks are happening for a reason, let me take you back to yesterday. I had a long walk covering approximately 10 or so miles I judge. it was really just to get out of the tourist area and then find some wildlife which I did. More on that later, time permitting.
I actually returned to The Falls area about 6.00pm and wandering round i went into the small shopping area under the Sheraton Hotel and into the jewellery hop, I'm not sure why and got talking to Jan, a lovely lady who had lived in South Shields and married her husband. They now live here and we talked about various things including the fact that I couldnt find an Internet Cafe. She directed me to the Library where I am right now.
Thanks Jan, because this is FREE!
On the way here I popped into Budget as I mentioned. Feeling a bit shell shocked I spoke with the lady on the front counter who actually researched a car company for me and has come up with a deal which is CAD 1133.20 or the cheapest CAD 944.20 !!
So I might just go back to Budget and see if they can better their deal, well maybe not, I might just take this one.
I have been really lucky with the people I have met thus far, non of them need to help me in anyway but as a result of all the little things they have said and done, the trip has been really quite stress free.
Enough. The Falls are wonderful, so much thunderous noise and power. The town itself is, how can I put this, a bit commercial. However I have kept to the Thursday night tradition of beer and curry. Just to mark the fact of having friends back home who will have indulged themselves in the same way. Well Michael and Richard, I found a brilliant Indian called The Guru. Anyone coming here who likes Indian food, it is well worth visiting. So I sat down and wrote up my travel log, some of which I will include on this Blog site. There were only 3 other white people in there and I took this as a good sign of the food. Well I was not to be disappointed, it really was good, actually very good.
It is noticeable that I have now joined a slightly different band of travelers, those who wear Tilley Hats. It has so far done what it says on the label, it hasn't shrunk, and it is water proof, next test does it stop UV's. We will see.
Sadly I am running out of time again. I'm off to walk behind the Falls and join the rest of the Grockles (tourists) on The Maid of the Mist boat for a quick trip along the river.
Keep well everyone, speak soon.
Chris
