Wish I had…in built Air Con.
19th Aug - 20th Aug
On Wednesday evening we took an overnight sleeper train from Delhi main station to Jaisalmer, its 1000km and took 20hrs! Ouch! We arrived at 1pm in the blazing desert sun chilled for a bit and then visited a Gerisir (Geri = Outside City, sir = lake) and went to watch the sunset at a 12th century graveyard (Not your eerie kind). We then had a rooftop dinner and I ate my first meat curry (there is a lot of vegetarian here), which was superb to say the least.
Today (Thurs) we went to the only Fort in the entire world that currently has people living in it. It was built in 1156, has never had its gates breached in battle and still remains as it was despite sinking into the ground due to rising damp! It may have totally disappeared in years to come. Cows roam the town as if they own the place and every road is only 4-5ft wide. Drinks on the top of the fort in a bar overlooking the desert were a highlight - you can see the view when I upload the pics.
Later today we are traveling deeper into the Thar Desert to camp overnight and have a camel ride which should be interesting! I have been told that liquor is the order of the day so I am going to invest in a bottle of Indian rum to get drunk on the sand dunes with the rest of the group.
I'll be back online in a few days from so speak to you then.
I hope your all is well back in England, I'll think of you all when I have that first swig in the desert!
I'm off for a massage…
All the best,
Will
