Ladies and Gents, Boys and Girls, Legends and Losers….
Time for my first blog update…
At the moment, I am in a small town (60,000 people) called Jaisalmer, in the West of India (about 120km away from Pakistan), it is baking hot and I am surrounded by Desert!
Delhi - the busiest city I have ever been to, with a population 16million it is constantly buzzing.People follow you for hundreds of metres trying to shine your shoes, sell you toys and bangles or even carry around weighing scales to earn some money!
Loves: The crazy Indians in their tuk-tuks! Beep-Beep!!!
Hates: Guys trying to sell shine your shoes, over and over again - I am wearing flip-flops!!!! Do one!
Weather: Very Hot and very humid
17th Aug - 19th Aug
I arrived in Delhi early morning on Monday, walked out of the airport and straight into the chaos!I expected a shock and I wasn't disappointed. My cab turned up with the driver and what appeared to be his mate in the passenger seat, I bundled in the back of what looked like a bubble car and made my way to the hotel. The trip involved a stop for my two drivers to relieve themselves, a route the wrong way around the roundabout and multiple close shaves with bicycle rickshaws and pedestrians!!I'll upload a video of the chaos when I get to a better computer.
A quick kip and I was on my way out into town for a 3hr trip on a tuk-tuk (an electric rickshaw) to see a few sites and then I met my group to begin a 20 day tour around Northern India. There is a good mix of people, English, Scots, a Canadian, a Slovenian Bassoon player, an Austrian and the funniest deaf guy called Abdul I think I will ever meet.He is determined to try everything he sees, from playing local Indian musicians' instruments to jumping in the most contaminated hotel pool you will ever see!
Tuesday involved a walk to a 17th century mosque and a temple where I tried some freshly baked Chapati (flat breads), and learned a bit about Sikhism. To go into mosques you often have to cover skin and take your shoes off so there were a few classy shawls flying around! Then in the evening we went for a meal and a few drinks in one of the local bars.To give you a sense of price I paid 200 ruppees (about 3quid), for a massive meal that filled even me to my most full!
Off to Jaislamer in the desert and the extreme heat on Wed night….
