Bulgaria
Day 18
It's now the next day and we are still travelling, having been dropped off at a deserted train station in what feels like the 3rd world. Not being told where we are, we had to get on a train and change, again not knowing where we were. I swear there weren't any paved roads and there were donkeys milling about and gypsies selling shrunken heads. Think the film Borat and you're getting close, the sad thing is I'm not even joking. When the 21st century finally reaches Bulgaria, they will s*** themselves.
At the 2nd mystery train station where we had to change we were told the wrong train to change onto, meaning we missed our connection to Sofia and were stuck in what turned out to be Plovdiv for 2 and a half hours.
After finally getting the train which was an hour late, we had 15 minutes to decipher where the Thessaloniki train was leaving from, which is pretty hard when everything is in the Cyrillic alphabet but we managed it, just.
Our train got into Thessaloniki at about 10pm, bearing in mind we hadn't eaten or drunk anything since the the corrupt Bulgarian train station. We scouted a burger place in the station, got our food to go, got on our 11pm train to Athens and ate like absolute pigs.
It was 5am before we actually got into Athens and after a solid day and a half travelling we finally made it.
