Hi Everyone,
Again we have been busy having fun so not keeping up with the blog each day.
We haven't even been able to down load the photo's - too busy!! The photo above is still of Bath, of me standing with a High Priest of Rome who was blessing the waters of the Roman Baths.
After a good nights sleep we got up early drove to Hitchen a small town south of Langford, parked the car to get on the train to see the sights of London. After we had picked our selves up after paying the cost of and all day transport ticket and when we took in to account we were able to get on and off the Underground all day it wasn't too bad, we fortunately had snagged a straight through train so were in Kings Cross Station in only half an hour.
Kings Cross Station is where Harry Potter's 9 and 3/4 station is, they even have a shop here dedicated to Harry Potter memrabillia, plus a luggage trolley going through the wall at the 9 & 3/4 station.
Our first port of call was to go straight to Leicester Square where all the tickets are sold to see live stage shows. We selected to see "we will Rock You" which we knew was based on Queen music which we both love.
Tickets secured for that nights show we walked up towards Horse Guard Parade and through James Park to Buckingham Palace, I always like to press my nose against the railings!!
We next caught the Underground to Westminster Bridge, and walked across the bridge to the "Eye in the Sky" the big wheel that sits next to the River Thames and has enclosed capsules that holds up to 20 people. Fortunately for us it wasn't too crowded the wait was only minutes and they were only putting about 10 passengers into each capsule. It takes about 30 minutes for the wheel to complete a circuit, the views are fantastic and certainly well worth the time and money.
We next walked along the Hungerford Bridge back over the Thames River, on towards Oxford Street to have a look at Selfridges Dept Store, after we had seen the TV series late last year I was curious to have a look at the store. I think we would have caught the Underground again if we had realised just how far it was to walk, but it was interesting seeing all the people and hustle and bustle, along the way.
Selfridges is certainly a very high end Dept store, I looked at the price tag on a very simple top which was 225 english pounds - ouch!! We did have after noon tea in a cafe on the top floor which we could afford and enjoyed!!
We caught the Underground to the Dominion Theatre where the show was on, by this time it was 6.00pm the show was starting at 7.30pm, plenty of time to find somewhere for dinner, We selected "Garfunkle's" which is right next door to the theatre. The food was good, price reasonable what more could you ask.
We were ready sat in our seats only 5 rows back from the stage, great seats - the show was great our friend Sharon would have needed double ear plugs but the music was fantastic and the story line quite a surprise but quite cleverly done.
After the show finished we caught the Underground that was right next door to the theatre to Kings Cross, then we were lucky enough to catch a straight through train to Hitchen that left almost immediately.
Well that completed another day in our travel paradise.
Wednesday we had organised to again go to London on the train with Janice this time. We set again off for the Hitchen train station, just after we had paid for the parking ticket we found there was a brake down further down the line towards London and it may not be fixed for hours.
With Janice helping direct us we drove to the outskirts of London city and parked next to Regents Park and walked to the Baker St Underground to take us to Westminster to see Westminster Abbey.
We spent the next 2 hours wandering around listening to the portable hand held audio device giving all the history of this beautiful ancient abbey. All the coronations of the Kings and Queens have taken place as well as many royal weddings and funerals, many kings and queens are buried here, including Queen Elizbeth 1 and her half sister Queen Mary.
We had lunch in the Abbey Cafe and were most surprised when we came out to see it was raining quite heavy, we had been so enthrawled in the Abbey we hadn't even noticed.
We decided to head back for the car to beat the afternoon traffic, but missed a turn then sally had to recalculate taking us further into the city traffic but Bill managed to drive right through the city traffic and eventually we got back onto the motorway to take us home.
We got back in time to see the last 15 minutes of Hannah's swimming lesson, she's pretty fast and has been invited to join the next level.
We collected take-away Indian on the way home which was really good, then spent another lovely evening with Janice Nigel, Matt and Hannah.
Another day ends.
Chat agin soon.
