As we drove onwards from San Diego, we climbed over mountains, and said goodbye to the green, and cold San Diego and hello to Desert, and heat! After a quick stop at a very quaint roadside café, we had a hell rising ride down the other side of the mountain, and watched as the temperature went up to 100 F. Now here came the problem, as the plan was to visit Joshua Tree on route to Palm Springs, but after driving all the way to the road that connects to Joshua Tree, a tiny little sign saying Road Closed appeared on the route we planned to take, sooooo needless to say a slightly angry Laura and Will turned around and decided to set up camp in Palm Springs for the night. When we checked in at the Caliente Tropics motel, what greeted us was a lovely pool with the San Jacinto mountaions as a backdrop so we took up residence here for a few hours, and planned our assault on Joshua Tree for the next day. To refuel we quickly headed into a very clean cut, pristine Palm Springs, to witness a very similar market to the Ocean beach one, and then had some very tasty pizzas and beers at Bills Pizza. The next day we woke early ready to try our luck with Joshua Tree again, but decided we needed a hearty breakfast to prepare ourselves, so off we headed to Cheekys, an amazing find at the far end of Downtown, with the most excting breakfast menu ever! We couldn't pick between the pumpkin eggs, bacon and heirloom tomato sandwich, but I settled on buttermilk and corn pancakes with blueberries and bacon, with truffle and parmesan hash browns on the side… we weren't hungry all day J Anyho then off we trekked to Joshua Tree again, and this time we succeded, and it was defiantly worth the wait. The landscape was unique, dry dessert conditions, with these cactus tree esque 'Joshua Trees' just popping up everywhere, alongside 1000's of crazy rock formations. We did a few little easy treks through the valleys, exploring this barren landscape, and then decided to do a 5 mile trek up Ryan Mountain, which sounds all good and well when you don't throw the scorcing heat into the mix, but needless to say we conquered the mountain, hot and sweaty and took in some stunning views on route. After relaxing by the pool again for the afternoon, and nipping in to town for a quick burger, our time at Palm Springs was up. And the next morning we got up bright and early to head to LA again to pick up our giant RV.
