Miraculously Joel was still alive in the morning but thankfully it was my turn to drive, as I'm sure Joel would have been over the limit for about a week. We headed off down the beach & stopped off at Eli Creek. This was a freshwater stream that flowed out of the rainforest & into the sea. It was only waist deep so you could walk from the top of it, all the way back down to the beach. With the sun beaming down, it was extremely refreshing to float downstream over & over again, before settling down on the beach for a sunbathe, which soon, thanks to Wayne supplying water pistols, turned into a waterfight.
Our next stop was to the S.S Maheno shipwreck. It originally ran aground in 1935 thanks to a vicious cyclone & has gradually decayed & rusted away after years of tidal abuse. After a brief stop here for the obligatory group photo we headed further round the island to the Champagne Pools. As the driver, I had control of all the windows in the 4x4, so if a wave came up the beach, I wound the back windows down & drove through them ensuring everyone got sufficiently wet!!
The Champagne Pools were another chance to sunbathe & have a dip in the water. The rocks here over time had formed various little pools of water to relax in without being threatened by the vicious currents or stingers that were still lurking around. The water was crystal clear & you could see the fish swimming around your feet.
Our next stop was a cliff top called Indian Head. A very steep climb took us to the top of the cliff, which is apparently a popular suicide point!! The views from the top were pretty amazing. You could see all along the island's coastline & looking back across the island, you could see where the rainforest grew straight up out of the sand dunes. Apparently this is the only place in the world you can see this. We headed back down to the cars, thankfully by the path & not by jumping, & then headed back to the campsite. This could only mean one thing.......comence drinking!!
We started up a game of Ring of Fire & various other drinking games, which did exactly what it said on the tin. Joel headed off to bed after once again having his fair share of Goon! About an hour later, a bemused Dutch girl came & asked if she could stay in my tent as Joel had apparently taken up residency in hers!!
