From Penang we hopped on two buses and 4 hours inland later we arrived in the Cameron Highlands. The highlands of Malaysia are a welcome break from the heat of the islands as they are way up in the mountains... infact the weather in the highlands is much like a summers day in England as its around 25 degrees in the day and it gets quite cold at night. Upon arriving we checked in to Fathers Guest House which was recomended to us by Mr Lee back in Penang, and a good choice it was too. The house was like a big English house set on the top of a mountain with large well kept gardens and really nice views of the surrounding area, the air here was so fresh, cool and not humid at all, it really did remind us of being back home! Because the weather up here is so much cooler than the rest of the country it's perfect for growing tea, strawberrys and other fresh produce and this is why many tourists come here... to see the tea plantations and the fresh strawberry farms. Also we read about the guest houses offering fresh tea and scones and whipped cream... so as you can imagine as soon as Lau read this we were here in a flash! That night we didn't stray too far from the guest house and wrapped up in the movie room with a cuppa tea and the fresh warm scones! Mmmmmm mmmm mmmmmmm!
The following day after waking up, the four of us (Me ,Lau,Dave & Kiki) headed out for a casual trek through the nearest tea plantation called 'Boh Tea', after 45mins walking along a winding lane we all decided that was enough walking and hitch hiked the rest of the way to tea factory, Dave and Kiki on motor bikes and me and Lau in a truck! When we arrived, there was a restuarant overhanging the tea fields where you could have a over priced tea whilst looking over the plantation... after that we went for a wonder around the factory and taste some of the tea! Our main objective when leaving here was to hitchhike back to the strawberry farms to pick our own, and within 20 mins we were hanging off the back of a old jeep flying around the corners of the mountains at 100mph!!... when we got off the jeep we felt like kissing the ground! We had big ideas about picking our own strawberrys at the farm, but upon arriving we got lured into buying the fresh strawberry cake, strawberry ice cream, and strawberry juice at the entrance, and after gorging ourselves on all three of these none of us could be bothered to go picking, so we reached through the fence on the way out and picked a couple to munch on the way out! As it was so cozy and homely at our guest house, that night was spent much like the previous night, watching a film, drinking tea, eating scones and playing cards... its a hard life at times! The following morning we were up and out at around 10am to catch our bus down to Kuala Lumpa in tome for the weekend to watch the Formula 1 Grand Prix... Yipeeeeeeeeeee!! x
