Hey guys!
So the first entry and Hols has kindly let me update it (took a few beers but hey...) So we're absolutely exhausted right now, but we got here safe and sound. After emotional goodbyes, Hols and I set off through the passport control and on to what seems to be the most incredible flight we've ever been on! Flying Emirates is amazing, especially as the flight was only half full so we had practically a private waiter serving us drinks and various goodie bags for our journeys! There was also a 6 course menu, which I got very excited about!
We landed after the 6 hour flight in Dubai; Hols had watched a film and fallen asleep through the rest of it where as I abused the system and watched a number of various films ranging from the Da Vinci Code to Lady and the Tramp, along with Scrubs. Dubai was quite odd; we were pretty much the only female westerners there and were probably looked a bit too favourably upon by other Arabic men...! We soon boarded our next flight, which wasn't as successful partly because we were shattered and also because I was stuck next to a weird, American (with a South African accent) drunk who reeked of alcohol, slept with his ridiculously hairy arm over my chair arm, and insisted on singing 'Maria' from 'Westside Story' to the poor Indian flight hostess who unfortunetly happened to be named Maria.
We eventually found the guy who was picking us up and went off with him in his little car. It was relatively hot as well, which is lovely. The driving is incredibly erratic; cars just don't seem to look whatsoever, and we encountered a few (rabid most probably) dogs lying in the middle of the roads, buffalo that grazed on the side of the road, a couple of flamboyantly decorated horses walking along side the road, and about 5 gigantic monkeys (also probably rabid) crossing the road. At traffic lights, a woman holding a naked baby came and banged on the car windows desperately begging for money, to which Hols and I shook our heads at, then learning that shaking of the heads doesn't neccessarily mean 'no'. We finally arrived at the hotel, which nice and quaint, and we have have spent the afternoon on the rooftop balcony drinking beer and listening to the constant honking of horns, squawking of black birds with bright yellow eyes (I'm guessing they're the pigeons of Delhi), and also jumping like anything when deafening blasts boomed out from gunfire that was being let off for some reason... It is Republic Day today, so nothing is open, there are no people on the streets really, just whizzing mopeds and army officials shooting something. Delhi is cool, but looking forward to seeing more of it tomorrow when things are open again.
Hope you're all good,
lots of love, Els and Hols xxxxxxxxxxx
