Hola chicos y chicas!
At the moment we´re in a little towncalled Rio Dulce, situated by a lake and river in Guatemala. Enjoying the view and admiring the many yachts that are here. The place is full of retired Americans who spend their time sailing around the Carribean. We´ve already been offered a lift to Belize on a catamaran by a friendly american couple. Might take them up on their offer, would be amazing to be sailing for a while, but it depends on when they leave.
Guatemala has been a very varied country in both flora and activites. The people are incredibly friendly, but you still feel you need to look after your bags at times.
After spending a couple of weeks in the highlands we´re now trying to get used to the humid heat down here in jungle terrority (it´s HOT!!!)! And with the mosquitos too! But I (Agneta) have to say Jake is a bit more scared about a few mosquito bites than me!!
Nagot ni myggvana svenskar kanske inte vet ar att det inte finns nagra myggor i England, sa engelsman ar ganska klena nar det galler myggbett!.. ha ha!
We´ve uploaded some more photos, but there´s still lots more to come once we find a faster connection.
On this picture I´m sat in Panachel by lake Atilian, where we were a few days ago just relaxing and enjoying the beautiful view of the lake surrounded by three volcanoes.
After Lake Atilian we visited the colonial town of Antigua. Did not spend too much time in town, it was nice but nothing too amazing. Did instead go on a great little adventure... we climbed an active volcano!! The trip started with 1,5 hour minibus ride past Guatemala City (the capital) to the volcano Pacaya. There are 37 volcanoes in Guatemala, but only three of them are active. Out of those three, Pacaya is the only one that is safe to ascend. After 1,5 hour of steep walking our group and tour guide exhausted reached a plateau above the clouds with gorgeous views over the valley. A bit ahead the lava landscape started and we had to climb over sharp black volcanic rocks. Our goal was a flow of hot lava. It was amazing!!! Photos and video will be uploaded as soon as we can, so you can all see it! It felt surreal to be looking at it in real life, and we were only about a meter away at one point and the lava flow was constantly flowing and getting closer and closer. A bit scary and really hot! Sunset then came quickly and we had to climb back over the rocks and walk down the mountain with only our torches and moonlight (tjusar-august, som mamma skulle kalla fullmanen, var ute!) to guide our way. A great day!!
